Lambda shuttle and defenders

By william1134, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all,

I need help choosing from the following lists. Palpy vs Krennic in a lambda

Palpy strength is that it is unlimited range but the effect is quite weak.

Krennic will help the defenders bump up their damage a little but only for one ship.

I am a little worried that the lambda shuttle may struggle to keep up with the defenders while pushing out coordinates at range 2 and staying alive.

Sai vs OGP with ST-321

OGP with krennic + ST-321 is a nice mix as Krennic wants a lock so the prototype can get the extra damage, but for the same points you can get Sai who is better but loses the flexibility of also being I1

  • I feel like if you're going for a Defender/Lambda build other than Omicron Group Pilot with the Initiative 1 synergy, you'll want to be leveraging the particular abilities of that Lambda as much as possible. With Sai, that'd mean ST-321, so that she hits like a truck.
  • Krennic might be OK. A defender might have spent it's tokens, not really have a lot behind it's attack, so spending a hit for Krennic to remove a shield seems... not terrible?
  • There aren't too many other options.
    • No crew at 5 points or under seems at all worth it, considering that 0-0-0 isn't available.
    • Ion Cannon or Tractor Beam on the shuttle. Could be nice to use some control to make up for your predictable dials. Doesn't really light my world on fire thinking about it, though.
    • Hull or Shield on the Lambda means your opponent will need an extra hit for either half points or kill. It always feels better to use Hull or Shield on ships with even hit point totals.
    • Alas, Collision Detector won't fit, unless cutting also the FCS, and I don't think that'd be worth it. Likewise, Advanced Sensors won't fit unless cutting ST-321, and then why even bother with Sai.
      • Jendon/ST-321 could work, though. Collision Detector would fit, or Agent Kallus. That kinda seems interesting to me. Kallus + ST-321 is almost as good as Sai's Focus/Lock, with Defenders easily starting locked on someone.
    • For builds without FCS on the Deltas, I guess Seventh Sister could fit on the shuttle. She seems... cool when she works, but with a low range, and I've never really played with her, so I can't be sure. I bet there are some Sev crew boosters out there, but I dunno. Again, doesn't really set my night on fire.
  • Palp/Sai doesn't feel right to me, but mostly because you can't also fit ST-321. I'd much rather have Palp/Collision Detector on an Omicron. Getting a Focus on Sai after she coordinates doesn't matter as much, if there's a Force charge around somewhere. Meanwhile, it'd be giving up Init 1 Synergy, which is nice with coordinates.
    • In some other world, where it isn't 2x Defenders that a Palp/ST-321 Sai is escorting, I think that might feel nice. This particular Sai swapped in for Redline's old job, for example, along side Whisper and Soontir... And that's something for a whole different thread.

TL,DR: Krennic/ST-321 on Sai, unless it'd be Jendon/ST-321/Agent Kallus.

Hey thank you very much for your lengthy and thoughtful reply!

I was thinking Krennic as because the defenders are I1, which means they shoot last and may not have any tokens left when they come to shoot. Krennic helps with this.

My only worry with this list is that the shuttle really wants to coordinate every turn, which is tough as you can't pre-measure and can fail the 0-2 range that it has. This will be tough with the defenders zooming around all over the place and the shuttle having to take the occasional red to turn around.

I am going to go with list 1 and see how it goes! :)

That's one thing which is nice about the Init 1 synergy of an Omicron. It often isn't hard to move the shuttle first, in order to coordinate a focus or lock before the Defender pulls a high-speed move away. But OGP isn't rolling in Focus/Lock. There are tradeoffs.
