Android - Going Deep, Going Shallow

By TheSapient, in Genesys

I've not done a through reading yet, but did search and fail to find much info on this. I understand the narrative effects of going deep vs. going shallow, but does the book detail any mechanical benefits and/or penalties? If not, what do you think is reasonable? Two setback for Computer (Hacking) and Computer (Sys-Op) checks and any checks to act in the real world if going shallow?

Edit: Actually, I don't think I like my suggestion. There are three states one could hack from, so I think maybe it should be something like this:

  • Using a Pad or Rig from real space: No boost or setback.
  • Using a BMI going shallow: 1 boost for Computer (Hacking and Sys-Op), 1 setback for all other non-knowledge skills
  • Using a BMI going deep: 2 boost for Computer (Hacking and Sys-Op), all other non-knowledge actions and maneuvers impossible.

Each device that allows going deep describes the benefits. It allows a second free maneuver in Network encounters without spending strain.
