Calcuroo / Calcuttani

By BoskiChe, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I want to leverage the discount on JumpMasters and on IG88's to revisit one of the first ideas for Scum in 2ed. A small introduction to the idea. Grab a concept of 1ed Dengaroo or Parattani (extreme focus efficency) and translate to 2ed. Scum have IG88A which allows to move Calculate tokens around and IG88D crew which gives Calculate action(even better one which gives 2 tokens not 1) and allows to use pilot ability from other IG88 ship with IG-2000 title. Put the fellow on Manaroo to allow further redistribution of tokens. The last part is the main beneficiary, which in such concept is the most deadly ship with calculate taht Scum have - Guri. The current list looks:

Guri (63)
Predator (2)
Advanced Sensors (10)

IG-88A (68)
Crack Shot (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Jamming Beam (0)
IG-2000 (1)

Manaroo (47)
IG-88D (4)

Total: 198

I'm not sold on details but the concept is looking good. Even when IG-88A falls first Manaroo stil lcan feed Guri with tokens. If Guri fells first IG-88A still can use tokens from Manaroo to be destructive. The details I don't like:

  • Predator on Guri
  • Crack Shot and FCS on IG-88A

I was considering Elusive on IG-88A to improve survivalibility. Potentially Tactical Scrambler on Manaroo. What do You think? It is a gimmick list, but the combo is legit. 4 Calculate tokens are nothing to be scoffed at.

Looks like something fun to play around with.

I'd also consider Elusive on IG-A. And how would Fearless be on an IG? That actually sounds decent. I always worry about offense on the IGs, and they've got decent speed to close to Range 1, so getting into someone's teeth might not suck.

Predator makes sense, since Guri can easily get a lot of focus-type modification, but won't necessarily have reroll-type. In a list which wasn't so stacked with Calculate tokens, I might consider Trick Shot at the same price.

It could be fun, but I don't envision it in this list. If I close up to soon I will need to K-turn or S-Loop which leave me tokenless for engagement phase. I need to minimalize such turns in order to suceed. However in a different setup Fearless could be very useful. Offensively speaking IG-88's are very capable for their cost. Previously they have relied on cannons, now 3 red dice with ways to modify them are at lest respectable.

I actually think that Guri can benefit from ex. Crack Shot, rely on her ability and Calculates from IG-88's for "eyeball modifications" and use Target Lock as an action to access rerolls. Other option is to give her Debris Gambit to maximize longevity with all these tokens. Predator is rather bland it gives some upside but it requires Bullseys constantly. Crack Shot is a one hit wonder, which used in a correct time can cripple the target.

What do You think about FCS on IG-88? In theory I can Target Lock and then receive token(s) from Manaroo. It seems a neat theory, but what about actual practice. Good taht FCS so a cheap upgrade so I don't sacrifice much, but with this out I can upgrade on Crack Shot to more expensive Talent.

I'm not sure. As with a lot of ships, it'd be nice, but it's hard to justify using the one and only one action on a Lock.

Fearless would likely be a better choice for IG! Thats the only change I'd make

Thanks guys. I'm missing a bit point of Fearless, but I will give it a go:)

Looks interesting, for sure.

A small summary from my side. I've taken the initial list with a small tweak (Crackshot changed to Fearless on IG-88A):

IG-88D (4)

I was against not a very competitive Imperial list (Emperor in Lampda, Starting with Adv. Protons, Inquisitor with Supernatural Reflexes and Prockets, Double Edge with Dorsal and Barrage Rockets). List was meant to test new toys for my friend. And proved to be very useful experience, because he now knows what is ok and what is not.

Back to the game. I was stunned about level of flexibility and power I had at my disposal. Tokens flew left and right to boost weak spots or improve my position. At the end all my ships have survived, but IG-88A was on 1 health, Manaroo also on 1 and Guri lost a shield.

What I have liked:

  1. Flexibility - IG-88A ability is good, Advanced Droid Brain is very good. Combined together they work wonders. When You add Manaroo in close proximity, You have almost total freedom of assigning calculate tokens.
  2. Firepower - Calculated, Fearless IG-88A is a capable player. Guri with predator, focus and 2 calculates is insane...
  3. Guri - TBH I haven't flown her much. The build only with Predator and Sensors looks optimal. I had tools to cope with any situation. Free focus is an icing on this cake :)

What I didn't like:

  1. Forgetting IG-88A card form home - nuff said.
  2. Fire Control System - once I had opportunity to use it, but I opted not to. Calculate is the go-to action in most all cases. This was only 2 point investment but I need to use it differently.
  3. Fearless - if it goes it is great. However I find it to restrictive for IG-88A. I will look into potential Talents. Maybe Elusive or Crack Shot are better here. I'm saying Fearless is bad, I'm saying it does not fully suit my play style with this particular list. Maybe I will get back to it, but next time I will experiment with something else.

All in all a great experiment. I like the idea very much. I see serious potential here. The list is not easy to fly. JumpMaster still has atrocious dial, but cheaper and relegated to support duty is ok. I don't have much room to navigate with upgrades or pilots. Minor tweaks and more experience and I'm ready :)
