Next Hyperspace monster? Briliant Luke

By Redblock, in X-Wing

Luke is already pretty tanky, but once brilliant evasion hits us in wave 3... With 2 dice its kinda waste, bot once you add third die (with stealth device) it goes kinda bonkers, and if you decide to go full ***** :D and add Evaan Verlaine near yourself, you get ship that never has any need to take focus, and makes any 2 dice swarm (like certain robots) cry.

Of course this is all pure speculations, and depends on cost of brilian evasion (I suppose 3-4) and lots of other factors, but looks promising.

No

Brilliant evasion is pretty lame TBH. Assuming you don't have any extra dice on Luke it will trigger on 6.25% of rolls, and on those 6.25% of rolls, how often will you NOT have two force or a focus, and be willing to spend both, or the focus? And the numbers don't get a lot better if you add the extra dice either. And even if you do only want to spend the one force, it just doubles the effect of something you were likely to have two of anyway.

It's fine, and it may be Luke's best Force talent, but it's not a monster, and it's not worth more than a couple of points. Three, at best.

If it was 'spend a force to change a die to an evade' or 'change all your eyes to evades' it might be better. The former in particular.

Luke, vs Howl Swarm:

It's really not that great. If it's like one point, it's not bad on 3+ agility ships that want to stay cheap, but the defensive difference is basically negligible for 2 dice.

(The real takeaway is that an Evaan-ed Luke with nothing else can joust TIEs virtually indefinitely)

Luke will always be good, but his lack of the evade action, 2 agility, and no crazy movement shenanigans always haunt him. He's very good, but ultimately just "permafocus the x-wing."

Didn't think about Stealth Device, that's actually a decent addition. Maybe throw Evaan in there as well, and some way to pass out foci?

I'm mostly looking forward to playing this card (assuming a 1-3 point cost; any more is too much) on Seventh Sister. She's already hard as nails, problably the toughest ship in the game relative to her points cost, and this might make those force tokens last that much longer.

Brilliant evasion would have to be free to be worth taking on Luke. When you factor in the stealth device as well you're talking about spending 9-10 points on a marginal increase in defence. There are better ways to build a tankier Luke (e.g. shields and regen) or you could just bid.

Hate has a lot more potential on Seventh Sister. She is supposed to be your annoying piece that either always deals at least 1 damage or slowly bleeds. Since she isn't all that offensive or a SNR-dancer, she can afford to use both force charges on a defensive roll. The marginal increase of efficiency from Brilliant + Evade is not that much over 1 calculate + Evade. Yeah, you can conceivably use 1 force on 2 dice twice in the same round in some games, but hate offers her some flexibility and usage of her ability, as that force recharges on damage taken.

IDK, i'm just too upset that even a purple evade is unavailable to the Silencer chassis. An unmodded 3 dice attack trying to snipe me behind a rock at range 3 with a focus? Eh, it'll probably miss, and I dodged all the threatening arcs. I'm good. 3 hits. DEAR GOD, **** NO I'M DEFINITELY TAKING 2 DAMAGE! 2 damage taken. 😐

I feel like Brilliant Evasion has potential (if it's cheap enough) on any Force User as a cheap upgrade, but only really as cheap filler. It's like Predator: not a game-defining ability, but a nice perk.

I like the idea of brilliant evasion on Vader.

Posted this elsewhere, but Brilliant Evasion is a trap. At least on current force pilots. How many times a game with a force pilot are you in the situation where you:

-Get shot.

-Roll more then one eyeball.

-Converting one eyeball isnt enough to stop all damage.

-Have at least 1 force spare.

-Don't want to / can't spend 2 force.

-Don't have a focus (or even an evade token to mod that second eyeball).

The best use I see for it is on the I3, 1force, generic Delta 7s without the 7b config (if they have a force slot). Even then not for more than a point. There it's effectiveness is on par with heroic on a T-70 for defence, but at least heroic has a chance to work with attack too...

It'd have to be pretty cheap to be better than Hate. With all his Force-spending shenanigans, the ability to quickly recharge Force points is more valuable than the ability to convert multiple focuses.

Well unfortunately he won’t be as Tanky because he will actually get shot way more often (he sure misses supernatural) he is still pretty good, still holds onto a proton torpedo well....but unfortunately is no longer dial casual

Brilliant Evasion is worth at most 1 point, as it has a very strong case for being the worst force talent in the game. Also, Luke has infinite force points, so why would he need an upgrade to make him more efficient with them?

Man, a lot people who play x-wing are really bad at math/logic/statistics. Actually, I work in a field that relies on math/logic/statistics and a lot people who work in my field are also bad as math/logic/statistics, but it's OK because its in the medical industry. People being bad at those things in X-wing in unacceptable though, especially if they fly better than I do.
