A Few wave 4 Abilities I've managed to translate.

As are you. There is no tool in the game for making such an attack.

its super irrelevant, because that's not what his ability text says

i'm not missing anything.

I think his point is that according to the rules the firing arc extends only to range 3 so attacks outside of range 3 wouldn't have to be performed in arc. This is of course unless the ability in question has more text that would force to measure arc beyond range 3, or the rules change.

Hence my point about ships in opposite corners of the board and facing off it shooting at each other. But according to nikk that's not the point.

Then post a link to the rules about how to make attacks beyond Range 3. I'll wait.

which part of "thats not what his ability text says" was too hard for you?

Don't the majority of players use straight line laser markers to judge arc at this point? I think it's been years since I've been to an X-Wing night where nobody had a laser to help us check arc.

Those lasers are the worst. I've never understood why people put away a perfectly good ruler to pull out a wobbly laser line that's several mm thick

Dude, it's in the OP and I already quoted it. **** off.

Because said wobbly laser line is much less likely to bump or knock over ships and other game state defining items.

Yup. Especially useful in multi-purpose pile ups in the middle of the board....

Aka my striker swarm met your TIE swarm, and now we are playing roller derby.

TIE Striker doesn't have the Jam action to get past the opposing Blockers, though.

Why would I want to get past? I’m twice as good at bumping as you are!

Oh you know what, you’re totally right. No OP has ever been wrong before in the history of this or any forum. I do apologize.

Thats still not what the ability text reads.

Sorry. I was making a Roller Derby joke. In Derby, points are scored when the jammer gets past the opposing blockers.

And yet I quoted the OP as a reminder that that was what I was having a conversation about. If you want to change that conversation to whatever the secret ability text you have reads, then post that.

Or you can pay a bit more like I did -- oh look, an opportunity to link to my article! ( http://acrossthesaga.com/frickin-laser-beams/ -- but they are pretty hard to find in the wild now.

A quick search shows someone had Amazon selling one (no idea how many are available): https://www.amazon.com/Gamesmith-ON-TARGET-Line-Laser/dp/B01CH89WV0

Thanks for the link. I find my Army painter laser to be pretty nice and accurate. do you feel this on target one to be worth 3x the cost of an army painter? and if so, why exactly?

Well, my goal was to spell that out in the article: it's the thinnest laser I've ever owned. Enough to justify 3X the cost? That has more to do with your wallet and what you're comfortable spending. The article was supposed to come across as a bit tongue-in-cheek in a fanatical and hyperbolic sense, but I do believe it's a quality laser and well built. I eventually came to own three of them because I thought I had lost mine at a tournament and so I bought two more for $20 each when funagain.com was having a fire-sale on their remaining inventory and thought I'd have a backup if I lost one again. And then I found my original lost laser (of course). Two of them are as thin as can be, but one is slightly thicker and indistinguishable from my Army Painter. That's the thing about Army Painter lasers, because they're cheap, they have a range of thickness widths as well. For example, my friend has an Army Painter laser that's practically indistinguishable from my On Targets...it's a unicorn! Maybe yours is too and you're all set! Regardless, the Army Painters are no where near as bad as how awful the Harbor Freight lasers can be.

My On Target laser has been used at times by judges at System Opens and Regionals when it made sense to do so because of how thin it was. Is it just as precise as a straight edge? Of course not, but it's close.

Thanks for the clarification. yes, I've seen some other Army painters that are super thick. hmmm.... I just may take the plunge and pick up an On Target if I can since I do judge a lot in my area.

and I agree on the harbor freight ones. I've seen some super bad ones from Harbor Freight!

If the On Target laser isn't to your satisfaction, be sure to publicly shame me...you'd think I was getting commission on their sales over how much I've shouted to the rooftops about these things the past few years.

Thanks for the advice, wanted something better than the Army Painter and didn't know about On Target till now, just grabbed one from Funagain

Let us know if you think it was worth getting or not!

Funny you should reply. The thing I got

  • looks like it should cost about $5 even if it worked
  • it doesn't work
  • they charge $10 for shipping USPS in a padded envelope (not even express shipping), making the cost $30

Also Funagain's website says all sales on this item are final. Feels like I may have got scammed.
