Portals and rest order(road to legend)

By Moneseki, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Just read a nice campaign report from Paul Grogan(campaign is from march 2009). A question which impacts the game quite alot came to my mind.

1) Can a hero declare an order action, move to the portal and then put a rest order on himself? This resulting him entering the next level with full fatigue when he activates.

Regarding portal(page 18 in rlt):

" T he Portal
Beyond the red rune-locked door on each level is a portal leading to the next level. Once a hero steps onto the portal map piece, he is removed from the board and becomes invulnerable to harm. Heroes remain thusly in transit until all of them either enter the portal or move to town, at which point all of
the heroes are moved to the next level.
"

We`ve always removed a hero the moment he steps onto the portal map piece, not giving him time to give himself rest order(or any order for that sake). Opinions?

This has come up a few times and I honestly can't remember what the consensus was. I think most players play that you can rest between dungeons (assuming you declare a Ready action and use the Rest order as part of that action, and go through the Portal and not to Town)...

Actually, technically what happens is you first place the Rest order on yourself (since you can place an order at any point in your turn when you declare a Ready action), and THEN you go through the portal. Since movement does not remove a rest order (nor does going through a portal) it stays on you so when you start the next level you can remove it and gain fatigue. I believe this was answered by Kevin in the GLOAQ. But yes, you can use a rest order to restore fatigue between levels.

+1 to Kartigan's response.

Here's the relevant text from the GLoAQ:

Q: Can a hero place a rest order before entering a portal, and recieve full fatigue when the next dungeon level begins?
A: I was going to say "no, because moving removes the Rest order," but a careful re-read of the Journeys in the Dark rules revealed that I was in error! I can find no reason why a hero cannot do this. (Although technically, he would not be restored to full fatigue until his individual turn began and would still lose his rest order if he somehow took damage before then.)

Thanks both Kartigan and Big Remy. I`ve not read the rules for rest order properly. Actually now I notice all but aim orders are valid for placing order first, then moving. Will impact our game quite alot I think. Again thanks.

Aye true that, although the hero will probably want to wait until he has moved right next to the portal, then place the rest order, and then go through. That way some nefarious overlord won't play a trap card on him on his way out of the level which would cause damage and remove the rest order. Not that I've ever done that.... demonio.gif
