It is a future I don't want. If it could be fun for MoM, it would be a real waste for descent.
As the App are, I rather prefer play a video game than a board game. And on top of that, I like playing the Overlord, maybe more than heroes

Many people want it, because Descent is then a real Coop-game and most playergroups have only 2 players.
I think that MoM2, the Descent 2 APP RtL (for free) and the IA-APP (for free too) is a test too, to see what the people want and what must have a modern game.

I'm playing descent with a friend from 3 years now, we are only 2, we switch places and we play each hero each time.
I'm played a few time the APP, it's so boring that I'm never going to play it again. A real player cannot be replaced by an app, not the one they bought. Maybe a real IA could have a chance, but not the one we have. If the futur of FFG is to rush toward brainless monsters and only rolling dice with no tactics at all, then I'm going to see elsewhere if I find what i'm looking for.
if you mean the App is boring, then play they at level *hard* or with not the best heroes/classes.
yes, "Frostgate" is boring, but "the Delve" is nice and campaigns are nice too.
But i play Coop-Pods too.. i have 10 Coop-adventures (7 and a big campaign about Skarn) without a app, all in german language:

It's nothing about hard or not, and even the POD are boring. A real player will adapt his tactics depending on the other player(s), ajusting his gameplay, etc ... The app or the POD bring only random effects with the random of the dice, for a random play.

sorry,
most is in german language and the Legacy of Ithyndrus is not complete in english.
Download:
I know about the 3 Official ones; which is the source of the other 7? Thank you.
I like playing the app because then there's no loser. That's the most important part of it I'd say.
When I'm playing the overlord it makes me feel like a huge jerk when I win, it's not fun for 4 people then because they've got smashed. And because this game snowballs it often means it stays not fun for them as we go on. The app totally removes that problem.
And yea it means I can play it two player without it being....rubbish.

The 7 others (source see up) are from the german community.
The english translating of the legacy was stopped, because RtL-App come out to this time :

I dont know if the others adventures was translated
Edited by Grubby12345Sorry, I never finished the english version, but there also wasn't much interest when I posted the project on BGG.
I might create a remastered version one day, but it always seems that there is something else to do.

If you lose against the app, you all lose. And if you win, the app loses. Just a point of view. And if there is no risk of losing, is it really playing ?

@rugal , playing can simply mean "enjoying to play a game with your friends". Winning and/or losing is not necessary 🙂

I like the APP as an option as it is now. I don't like the App being compulsory though.

we lost often the APP, because we play the Monsters moves how with Overlord.
The time pressure can be hard if you get stuck somewhere.
And the Coop-Pods really played are very hard. No time. In last 10 days we lost two and win one Coop-Adventure.
But the game with Overlord ist nice too..i love Descent very much because we have FOUR kind of gaming here:
-Overlord vs Players
-Auto Overlord vs Players to play the orignal Campaigns (Fan-Project)+ random Deeper Dungeons (Fan-Expansion)
-Coop-PODs vs Players (+the Coop Fan-Projects )
-APP RtL vs Players with Campaigns and 2 other kind of game (Frostgate and the Delve).
we need now only a offical editor for the APP (near easy to use how the Quest Vault) to make self hundreds of App-Adventures too.
Edited by Grubby12345I was thinking about the blue X, and it occurred to me- if you want a scout or healer class and you want to avoid the X as much as possible, you could pick Widow Tarha or Reynhart with these new hybrids.

As bad as the quest vault went I can't imagine having the adding another hurdle would make things better....
I love the app so I can solo play or play co-op with my wife. When I solo, I love testing and seeing what different heroes and combos look like in practice. It helps my turn as an Overlord.
If they keep going with the app and publish more book adventures (incorporating the expansions) that would my ideal for keep this game fresh and not feel abandoned. There is so much play ability here already, that these new class cards are icing for this glorious cake.
There is so much physical content out there already. Four full campaigns (five if you count Shadow Rune). A full campaign probably takes a minimum of 30 hours, so that’s at least 150 hours of fun. Then there are tons of heroes, classes, monsters, and plot decks, so if you are lucky enough to have played every campaign once, you can replay them with new hero and overlord combinations.
If you don’t want to play or can’t play a campaign, you can choose any quest from a campaign and play that. There must be over a hundred quests you can try with different heroes and classes, and that’s in addition to the three dungeon crawl expansions, and all that completely ignoring the digital content.
I don’t know about you guys, but by the time I’ve played everything I bought for this game, I would be more than ready to move onto a new game.
Edit: My point is that I think no more physical content needs to be made.
Edited by ArtaterxesI disagree, but for different reasons. I'd like more content just cause I use mainly the tiles on my own game. And descent at this point lacks ice and desert themes. To tell the truth, it's been years I don't play real descent, and that's why I'm not interested in this new expansion, probably made only with cards for classes.
Edited by leewroyI do want more content, but I recognize the staggering amount of content this game already has and I’m fine with Lost Legends rounding off the game. (Though an updated monster deck and a new OL class or two wouldn’t be unwelcome).
Pipe dream, but I *do* hope for an arctic/tundra expansion, since that has so much potential. Spruce trees would make great art/obstacles, snow/ice terrain, cold weather... it’ll never happen, but I like the idea and the game has room.
I'm curently creating a campaign on this theme (ice). It is sad the game lacks thoses tiles but it is better than nothing
Funny how just as I began to pick up painting the miniatures again and looking into forming a new group once more FFG announced a new expansion! This thread is somewhat stale but I since it got me interested in Descent again I would like to give my two cents:)
When I left this forum, Descent was considered de facto discontinued so maybe the pessimism that characterized a large part of the community was unjustified? It seems that many new people have entered this forum so good to see that people are still picking it up. I notice that in my local game store Descent and all the expansions are stocked.
Regarding the deck, I would say that this type of expansions are a great way to revitalize interest in the game because they are pretty cheap to produce and buy (and hero related stuff is always the most exciting in my opinion). Even though ±$40 for a boxed expansion is quite cheap for the number of gaming hours it provides (compare it to going to the movies for example).
I truly hope that a lot of you guys will pick up this new expansion so that FFG will see that there is still interest in this type of game. I highly doubt that there will be boxed expansions but I also doubt that Descent needs it. I have 4 expansions myself so there are still all the H&M packs for all my painting and Descending pleasure. Class decks like Lost Legends are then the most sensible complementation of the existing content. If this new expansion becomes a success two things can happen (imo of course):
1) FFG will continue this type of content, maybe campaign books as well. This would make a third edition more likely. The risk of power creep limits how far FFG can develop the second edition before a new edition becomes inevitable. I personally don't feel that a third edition 'robs' the player of all the content he/she has bought, even if conversion kits are available.
2) FFG will start developing the successor of Descent/ IA. My crystal ball is making assumptions here but since IA is no longer the favorite child of the FFG 'dungeon crawl' family I think something entirely new is plausible. It never made much sense to me that these two games existed simultaneously since they are basically the same game with different themes and slightly different rules, they are the same type of game after all. But I also think that Descent third edition is more likely than Imperial Assault second edition. And because I think that Descent has some fundamental mechanical issues I don't think it can come in the form of new content for the app, a new edition is necessary to meet the current standards of board gaming.
TLDR;
I am pretty optimistic that FFG will continue developing Descent/AI style dungeon crawlers!
@Ceasarsalad101 , it seem that you are not aware of the new LotR Journeys in the Middle-earth game: everything else is dead now (even the recently published Heroes of Terrinoth) 😞

The issue was that ffg convinced a lot of people to buy into the game for RtL co-op only. Canning it a year later would have rightly have left quite a few people feeling suckered.

Actually the ceo stepped down and suddenly games that were being neglected got attention and at least runewars which was getting a ton of attention looks to have been canned on the spot.

Yeah it's called LotR Journeys in the Middle-earth
