I guess some box expansions got canned

By zwara81, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

To be honest, this is pretty much exactly what I was looking for with respect to what additional expansions for Descent could entail. We already have a huge variety of heroes, monsters and tiles (although a few more urban tiles and ones with different biomes besides underground/grasslands wouldn't hurt). Really, the only area I wanted more variety was with the class decks. I hope that this won't be the only one and they will release several more PoD decks to fill int eh gaps. This combined with more content in the Road to Legends app means Descent is far from over.

Shocked ... just ... shocked.

After returning from the hospital to deal with the palpitations of my feeble, old heart after seeing ... something ... anything ... being announced for D2e ...

I was pleasantly surprised that they have finally addressed some of my OCD issues ... we get new stuff that completely fills out all of the classes ...

I can live with this ... I think. 😋

So which heroes are we still missing from Descent First Edition? I looked into this a while back, and by my reckoning:

HEALER (2): Aurim, Brother Glyr.

SCOUT (4): Bogran the Shadow, Kirga, Red Scorpion, Tobin Farslayer.

WARRIOR (4): Eliam, Hugo the Glorious, Laughin Buldar, Varikas the Dead.

MAGE (2): Landrec the Wise, Mad Carthos.

Is this correct?

I was thinking the same as what the title to this thread said.

I am glad to get new content and will have to call a FLGS to order it for me (they want too much for shipping from their store and I only live 30 minutes from FFG.)

Correct.

I’m looking at $32 to ship outside the contiguous US from FFG’s site. I’ll be placing an order at my local game store soon, then.

With no disrespect intended to the OP I do think it's a shame that this is the main thread for the great new content and is title not only doesn't highlight that fact to any casual visitor, but also can be seen as quite negative or ungrateful.

Not exactly saying to FFG yay great we all celebrate it, let's keep having more content please when we feared the game was finished.

I'm really glad that something new is coming although I'm going to say Hybrid classes are mostly disappointing - I feel like their main draw is letting you use a fighter class for a mage because mage classes aren't very good.

I can't think of any time I'd rather use a scout class than a fighter class too. I guess what I'm saying is that healer/fighter are the best "realised" archetypes.

This especially applies to the app!

I was honestly afraid that Descent was going to be digital-only from this point forward. I'm glad to see a new physical product. I'm sure I'm in the minority here but some more physical co-op adventures would be nice, too. I don't own anything that can run Road to Legend except my PC (which is on my desk in my office and my game space is the dining room table).

At least we get the class as POD expansion, but still leaves a bitter taste.

so farewell, descent?

Honestly how much more plastic and cardboard are you looking for? We already have a ton of heroes and a huge amount of monsters and tiles not just a few of which feel very VERY similar. I like that they're breaking out of the mold where every release has to check off the same boxes to give their descent fan base something that they've been asking for and hope to see more of the same going forward.

After thinking a bit more about this, it's a shame that there is no mentioning of the inclusion of 5 alternate skill cards for the marshal, prophet and wildlander for use with Road to Legend. It would have been a great opportunity to get the skills of these classes working for RtL.

How do we get this expansion to Europe????? They don't accept my address 😞

This expansion was highly unexepected but it is very good news.

If it sells good, maybe we would have some more like theses.

I hope for campaign books myself

Awesome news! I like this approach as others have stated because it lets FFG test market interest in Descent without tying up their plastic production lines in china which are currently filled up making legion & x-wing 2.0 stuff. Also it can be understated how much value classes add to collections that already have a wide depth of heroes. I agree I would like to see the remaining 1st ed heroes produced and a campaign or two still made but for now this is a welcome treat.

Sounds like a solid final 3 HaM packs, to me. Now we just need 9 original monsters, since I think 1st Ed. is covered now, which makes the potential of that even more exciting.

Well, to be honest, I could live with them simply releasing the 12 heroes that exist in D1e but do not exist in D2e. After all, they assuaged my OCD completeness issues by releasing the missing classes. We are half way home ... now just release the heroes, and I can stop twitching in the middle of the night ... 😝

Anyway super excited by this one. For 12 bucks we ll get a lot of replayability. Very very please.

I am looking forward to getting this expansion. But shipping for $15? Really? Seems like shipping costs went up after Asmodee took over.

I still need to catch up on a few things (I only have one Hero and Monster Collection and haven't gotten either of the last two boxed expansions).

Personally, I'd like to see more campaign books like Heirs of Blood . We have enough tiles and monsters at this point (maybe) but some fresh story arcs (either building on previous ones or entirely fresh) would be nice. Any physical products to support them would be new or variant Allies or Lieutenants unique to that storyline.

I’d like to see more campaign books too. I like the idea of combining expansions.

My dream would be campaign books for expansions that include the original campaigns in addition to new ones, to ensure the campaign booklets physically last.

I'm very surprised and happy to see this. Didn't think we would get any more content. Wish it was a new expansion but I'm glad to get anything.

I'm almost sure this expansion is

- to thank fan like us
- a good way to add content to the app without having big stuff
- a small test to see if this type of expansion can work
- big negocations with asmodee

I can't wait to have it ! But I haven't seen the release date somewhere. Should be long for only card, yes ?

I think it's a fantastic new. We have a lot of plastic and carton. The next one another expansion like this with overlord cards fixed or as it's said in other topic a rulebook with competetive rules between heroes, an arena or something like that.

This would have been perfect if it had included a Basic III-deck for the overlord. Looks like they are wrapping up D2, but this is still good news.

Awsome Expansion. I Also think they are testing new ways to deliver stuff with the app integration. I think that no box expension can be expected until all box expansion have been integrated to the app. Sales are probably much higher for expansions with integration with the app.

I would like to see more options on search cards, since it is a card only expansion, they could have included a few of them in there 😉
