NO MODS FOR SIZE IN CRITTERS?

By LETE, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

HI!

Been scanning the writeups of some of the critters in the Creatures Anathema book & wherever the Size trait comes up the creature in question doesn't get a base move modifier (according to it's size, the creature should get modifiers to hit it, it's base movement score & the concealment skill ).

Am I reading the entries wrong or misreading the rules? babeo.gif

(I've checked most of the Vermin section in the book...)

If this has already been address, please, kindly point me in the right direction... gui%C3%B1o.gif

Hi Lete,

I am not quiet sure whay you are adressing. Could you give a short example with a critter from the CA?

Hi:

What I'm sayin' happy.gif

The critters (at least the few one's I've checked) which have a Size Trait don't have their Base Movement modified by it, methinks.

An example:

Page 58, Creatures Anathema - The Gloomhaunt.

One of it's Traits is it's Size (Puny).

Going over the DH rulebook I find that Size: Puny confers these (pg 332 - Table 12-2 Creature Size Modifiers):

A Modifier to hit it of -20; a Concealment modifier of +20; a Base Movement modifier of AB-2 (Agility Bonus minus 2)

Looking at the Gloomhaunts's stats, I see no "factoring" of the AB-2 modifier (for it's puny size) in it's Base Movement.

In other words, the "sample" Gloomhaunt's Agility is 23, (an AB of 2 , right?) & it's movement rates reflect this exactly, without any Size modifiers whatsoever (it's actual Base Movement should be 0 (!) - an AB of 2, minus 2 for it's puny size ). sorpresa.gif

Unless I'm doing it wrong... Or it's "factored in" in the Agility score already... gran_risa.gif

The Gloomhaunt is a flying creature. Its Agility Bonus therefore does not matter when it comes to movement rates, it is replaced by the Flyer (4) trait. As you already mentioned, a puny creature uses its AB (4 in this case) minus 2 which results in a Base Movement of 2. Voila! Thats what is stated in the book.

Other beasts might have other weird and unexplainable Movement Rates, but as long as they seem reasonable I would just leave them like that, because correlations of size and speed are rather limited in real world, and providing a whole set of talents or traits just for explaining differences would be redundant and boring

Hi!

So, it's actual Base Movement is taken from the Flyer Trait, instead of it's AB... right?

Thanks for clearing that up!
