Fleet troopers

By Thalandar, in Star Wars: Legion

So, I run 4 squads of fleet troopers with scatter guns, wookies and at rts. A buddy who plays Empire has said fleet troopers are broke and overpowered, compared to stormtroopers and that he can't beat my list because of them. He went on to say that Empire doesn't stand a chance against the overpowered Rebels. Am I missing something here? I have 4 empire opponents that I play, and only he seems to do so poorly against them. Has this been a problem for anyone else? Is there too much of a power creep? I don't think so, I think this game is extremely well balanced, but he has gone so far as to say he won't play me again until FFG corrects the issue. What issue? Help me to understand this logic.

the thing is you need to combat fleettroopers at range 3 to be effective with stormtroopers otherwise your just screwed, or take 4 units of snowtroopers with frag grenades and get to range 1 and flame them to death with 6 black and 5 red dice 😉.

Er force them into melee range with IRGs.

Some people have trouble accepting responsibility for their losses... so they blame the game

That being said, what kind of terrain are you playing on? Fleet troopers and snow troopers love lots of LoS blocking terrain and have an advantage there.

What is your opponent running against you in his list? And how is he deploying/moving up to attack you? Personally if I saw someone fielding 4 fleets I would just sit back and pick them off/suppress them with DLT's, Snipers and AT-ST shots at range 4

In all honesty, I think that Legion is the most balanced game involving list building that I’ve ever played.

It’s all in how you approach the game with what you have, what your opponent has, and the terrain/objectives.

Yeah, Rebel players are on here complaining about how overpowered Imperials are, and Imperials are complaining about Rebels. That's how you know its actually balanced.

As I replied on the "same" topic on army building :

As I would reply to any people who says rebs are more broken than imps : "I won all my games when ever people played imps with rebs. Now that ever single guy are switching to rebs, I'm starting winning with imps."

Tell your buddy to throw that at-st garbage out of his list and start playing snowtrooper as they will wreck appart fleet troopers.

I can't say more than giving thumbs up to the 2 guys before me. Legion is the most balanced game I ever saw, and even if people are already starting to complain on how Pathfinder, Jyn and Sabine are broken (pro tip : just wait for Krennic, I'm pretty sure I will love him, and for Bossk ), they do not seems to break the balance of the game (to have Jyn and 3 maxed up pathfinder units will take a large chunck of the points of the army!)

What a strange game. The most broken thing is whatever you're not playing...

The only way to win is not to play Dr Falken.

Fleets are good, but by themselves they aren't great. Their lack of range makes them vulnerable to all imperial corp, but stormtroopers in particular. Depending on how you've been loading out the RTs, I would recommend to your friend to invest in e-webs. The range 3 standby is better ranged than most if not all of what you favor.

That really depends on the objective though, doesn't it? You can sit back all you want but if the objective is Breakthrough you just lost the game. He doesn't use snipers, neither one of us has had good luck with them.

If he prevents you from breaking through, has he really lost? But yes, you do need to adapt based on mission objectives.

As for snipers, you’re not using them right. I don’t know what was done or how, but they work when used correctly.

Um, I use them right they just miss. both dice, whiffs (even the aim rerolls)... complete waste of points. I have run 3 sniper lists multiple time with little effect on my opponent

They average 1 hit (both imperial and Rebel) before any re-roll. You were just astoundingly unlucky.

I've had fleet troopers wipe out a squad in a single attack, but I've also done the same to them. I've never faced them en mass before, so I can't really say, but I'd generally think the extra range of Stormtroopers would be a great way to balance things out.

Rebels are more dependant on terrain. The armies habe near mirrors thoigh as far as units go. Range is always a tough counter but i feel like the board is so small that it o ly matters for a turn or so.
