Wave 5 predictions!

By XPav, in X-Wing

What I Want:

- cross faction upgrade card packs for the new wave 3-4 mechanics and toys that came out only in new factions but could be used on the older ones

- Epic conversion kits for epic 2.0

What I expect:

- Rebels - awing

- Empire - tie interceptor

- Scum - no content OR maybe a small base (not the HWK - thinking Ywing, scyk, or starviper)

- FO - Upsilon

- Resistance - Falcon

- Republic - ywing with the beefier armor and stat-line, maybe LAAT

- CIS - sheathipede or tri-fighter

Why not the HWK, if you don’t mind me asking?

I am leaning toward Wave 5 is going to be Episode IX related.

Wave 5 will be Sept meaning anything teased in May and/or June would be spoilers towards the film so very doubtful (To an extent I think this applies to Wave 6 as well). Wave 7 being Episode 9 centric makes sense though since they won't be spoiling the movie.

No specific reason other than my salt intake is on an uptick today, and if I was going to be conspiratorial I’d suggest ffg is waiting for the conversion kit sales to be over before making that valuable a card available to the Scum faction at a reasonable cost (rather than a “buy this extra kit for a faction”).

Either way, doesn’t hurt me because I converted most everything I owned anyway (just not resistance).

Just like how I’m seeing brand new cross faction cards coming in the next few waves...but only with brand new factions. So if you play the older established ones, too bad.

Fair enough. I guess I’m convinced the HWK will be the next Scum release because the Decimator comes with some previously gated crossfaction cards.

I’d be happy to be wrong. I might even buy a second HWK if the paint scheme or sculpt is unique.

I have one model that my two factions share currently.

So far my involvement with wave 3 and 4 will be nonexistent unless I decide to dabble in something.

I'm hoping the Republic will get the LAAT, or perhaps the Y-wing. It's likely a bit too soon for the Eta-2, and with all the high speed ships the faction will have by wave 4 I'd guess the V-wing will be held back a bit longer as well.

For the Rebels, I'd expect more re-releases, probably the A-wing if I were to guess.

Resistance will get their bomber or their Falcon, so no real surprises expected there.

I don't play the others so I'm not gonna bother to throw out guesses for them. I'll leave that to people who actually use them.

So random question, @Captain Lackwit what's the reasoning behind the Republic Y-wing being on a medium base? Does Wookiepedia list a ridiculous length on them or something? I know the CW cartoon wasn't always to scale on most things, but they didn't look any wider there, and comparing them to other Y-wings from Rebels (that other CG animated SW cartoon), I feel like they might look a little shorter. Just curious if there's another resource that listed measurements or something.

If I may interject, while the scale on screen is a little wonky, according to official measurements the Alliance Y is 16.4 m. The Republic Y is 23.4 m. For comparison, the U-wing is 24.98 m, only a meter longer than the republic Y.

So by measurement the republic Y may be a medium base because of its length, but you are right it’s not any wider. Either way, it’s going to look awkward.

I'm somewhat looking forward to what they might do with a new HWK paint scheme. The funny thing is, I think the Moldy Crow paint scheme fits better for Scum and that one Rebel paint scheme from the mobile game or whatever obviously fits for the Rebels, but then the Moldy Crow is known for being a Rebel ship, which makes the whole thing crazy. As it is, I've always wondered if that's why the title only ended up in the Rebel Conversion kit. Either because that caused it to slip their mind when designing the Scum kit, or because it was even fully Rebel Only at one point and was changed late enough that they didn't fix it.

As for predictions, I'll repeat what I said last time. I don't really see a pattern. The fact that I don't see a pattern makes it more of a pattern though, so I feel better about guessing myself this time.

Reprints:
Resistance Bomber (Guessing that they won't do two Falcons back to back, but I wouldn't put money on it.)
Upsilon Shuttle (To balance out reprinting the Resistance Bomber.)
Rebel A-Wing
Scum HWK-290 (The Decimator makes it feel like they are trying to increase availability of certain existing cards.)

Individual Releases: (Because I'm being conservative about new ships.)
Belbullab-22
V-19

New Ships:
TIE Brute (It still feels weird to me that they've skipped it.)
YT-2000 (Just for something different?)

Thanks for clearing that up. Personally I hope FFG makes them similar in length to the Rebel ones. Being that close to the length of a U-wing just seems kinda silly. I'm trying to picture it in scale, and it just looks hilarious to me. Oh well. We'll see what it looks like when they get around to it I suppose. Either way I'll likely fly it, so it's not like this impacts me. :P

It's probably too soon for Jango's Slave 1 isn't it?

Also, size issues aside, the "chrome" on the N1 makes me hope they don't attempt the Naboo shuttles. Unless getting it electroplated afterwards isn't too expensive...

My bet:

  • Rebels : A-Wing ( re-release )
  • Empire : Tie Defender ( re-release )
  • Scum : MA-3 Interceptor ( re-release )
  • Resistance : Resistance Bomber ( re-release )
  • First Order : First Order TIE Interceptor ( new )
  • Republic : LAAT ( new )
  • CIS : Maxillipede shuttle ( new )

Electroplated plastic? Doesn't electroplating require the item being plated to be conductive?

Spray the ship metallic silver, then put a glossy varnish on it.

  • Rebels: A-Wing
  • Empire: TIE Interceptor
  • Scum: Aggressor Starfighter
  • Resistance: Resistance Bomber
  • First Order: Upsilon
  • Republic: Y-Wing
  • CIS: Tri-Fighter

I suspect that Wave V may be in two parts. The non-IX could be out in Sept, while Resistance and First Order stuff with the rest of Force Friday stuff.

They were longer. Nobody needs measurements to see that not only were they larger, but were just... Way more heavily armored.

y-wing-variants.jpg

Now, take a look at this. They're longer, got much bigger guns, actually have crew space, unlike the Rebel Y-Wings at literally any iteration, and well, you could go on and on. Forget external sources here, the Y-Wings from The Clone Wars ARE intended to eventually be the same ones The Rebellion used, and we can watch the Reklam station ones get slowly but surely refit into what we know as the Y-Wing.

So I asked myself.

"How does one make the Y-Wing easier to hit but not lose any more defense dice?"

Larger base. That also makes it harder to move around, but has the really fun side effect of becoming a little bit faster too. Less nimble, but more overall speed. Humorously. Its dial will definitely reflect its size too- so how does Medium become worth it? Reinforce, on top of more shields and armor. Y-Wings of The Clone Wars were harder to kill than Y-Wings of The Galactic Civil War in terms of just how much punishment they could take.

Yeah, you paint it with metallic paint first. I was watching a video of a guy on how he painted his T800 (life size, made from the moulds used for the film) - it's resin, painted with high metal content copper paint, then electroplated in nickel and then electroplated again in chrome. It also made me want a T800.

Rebel: A-wing, Ghost(with Phantoms?)

Empire: Tie Interceptor, Tie Bomber

Scum: HWK

Resistance: Starfortress, T-85

First Order: Upsilon, Red Interceptor from Resistance

Republic: Y-wing, One of the shuttles

CIS: Tri Fighter, Sheatipede

  • Rebels: A-Wing
  • Empire: TIE Defender
  • Scum: HWK
  • Resistance: Resistance Falcon & T-70 (Black One) two-pack
  • First Order: Upsilon Class Shuttle
  • Republic: Eta-2
  • CIS: Slave 1 (Jango Fett)

That almost seems like it would be a repaint rerelease, to me. Sort of a "Scum Aces" pack?

Since the Resistance Transport and the Scum Falcon showed us that now ships can break off into smaller ships, I want to know when we're getting this Y-Wing:

Aw, but the cartoon was the highlight of the Holiday Special! It had Boba Fett accomplishing, literally, the most he's ever accomplished in any Star Wars movie! Admittedly, it's still pretty underwhelming, but all the same...

All very true. But when it's done coming out is the best part of the more stationary bathroom visits, still makes it, well.

Poo.

Shocked all these Republic predictions, and none for the ETA interceptor...

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ...... think the people will need at least a couple waves to settle-in with their current Jedi pilots before we add new versions of Anakin and Obi-wan ... or the dreaded Yoda pilot, to X-Wing.
