Okay, so, as per his ability, he grants a focus ACTION to a friendly ship at range 0-1 after he performs a boost. That would include himself. Vectored Thrusters say the pilot can perform a red boost after performing any action. So, let's say Jake performs an evade action, then boosts which stresses him because it's red. Does that prevent him from giving himself that focus action?
Jake Ferrell's ability question
Yes. Jake wouldn't be able to do that.
What he could do though is barrel roll, give himself a focus, then boost.

And pass a focus action to a squadmate in range after he does the red boost.

However even when he’s stressed from second action he could give to a friend. So BR - free focus for Jake - Red Boost - free focus to ship at range 1 (assuming that ship is not stressed).
That's what I figured! Thanks guys!

Before the points drop I was rolling and boosting to pass focus' to two E-Wing team mates, they then had focus, academy and lock.

Evade?
Yeah. Bloody autocorrect

Thought so, just wanted to make sure.
No you see the Academy action just lets you put a friendly Academy Pilot into play. Weird that Jake has it tho

can you launch it or do you have to drop it?
Sorry for necro-ing the thread, but I've come across a different interpretation, so I want to clear things up.
Are you guys sure Jake can't use his Vectored Thrusters to give himself a focus? Seems a bit counter-intuitve, but the Rules Reference states:
Actions are either white or red. After a ship performs or fails a red
action, it gains one stress token. (p.3)
While Jake's ability reads:
After you perform BOOST a or BR action, you may choose a friendly ship at range 0-1. That ship may perform a FOCUS action.
So, it seems that both have the same timing window (after you perform an action) - since one player controls both, doesn't it mean you can choose to trigger Jake's after you perform an action to focus, and only then trigger the stress from the red boost?

no. the player does not control both effects. the stress gained from performing a red action is a game effect - and so it always resolves before player effects.
jake can give himself the opportunity to perform a focus action as much as he wants, he just won't be able to actually perform it if he's stressed.

Ok, yeah, the same page 3 of the RR states:
If there are game effects that share the same timing window as a player’s
ability, the game effect is resolved first.
◊ For example, if a ship performs a red barrel roll and the ship has an
ability that triggers after it performs a barrel roll, the ship gains a
stress token before the other ability is resolved.
I could have read that before asking stupid questions
Thanks though!

We're certain.
As part of performing the Vectored Thrusters boost, Jake would get a stress token. Once that action has been resolved, his ability would activate. He wouldn't be able to perform the Focus action himself, due to being stressed.

a strict definition of what constitutes game effects and what constitutes player effects, or least a clarification of how to properly differentiate them, is needed, so it's great that you highlight it.
