What happened to SWL30?

By Thevshi, in Star Wars: Legion

This has been discussed before, but thought I would bring it back up. Right now we have products released from SWL01 (the core set) to SWL29 (the premium large bases). We have announcements for SWL31 (Jyn) through SWL38 (Bossk). We do not have any information on SWL30 (either by of an article or a release).

For the most part, things have been released in order, the main exception being the E-Web and 1.4 Laser Cannon, which were released after Han, Commandos, Boba and Scouts, even though they had lower product numbers. Similarly, Han, the Commandos, Boba and the Scouts were teased before the E-Web and 1.4 Laser Cannon, so many of us noted their products codes were unaccounted for.

So, that gets back to the question in the title, where and what is SWL30? As it is the only empty product code among what has been announced/released to date, does that suggest that it might be some neutral release (like Priority Supplies)? I hope it is something like that, would be interesting to get some more mission, battlefield and condition cards to add more variety to the types of possible games. Would also be great if there were some sort of minis/terrain to go with those missions. (I know one suggestion I have seen from people is a "rescued the downed pilot(s)" type mission, would be great if it was something like that).

Based off the numbering I'm guessing either a neutral expansion or a R2 and 3PO pack. The Downed Pilot idea could be cool but I'm holding out for them being a unit just to better allow cross play with X-Wing.

I wouldn't sweat about the numbers. X-Wing had it's fair share of "missing" numbers. Either FFG does that for some internal reason or just to keep people from guessing URLs and such.

I'm assuming it's a future neutral expansion or accessory which they are either waiting for the right time announce in the schedule or still fine tuning with testing - but it got far enough to be assigned an SKU so internally they can't change it. It's possible it could be a cancelled product, but I would assume then they'd just bump Jyn up and not leave the gap.

It was the dual faction Hondo operative. But he was too cinematic with his flip flopping mechanic, and didn’t fit the competitive power creep model :)

If Jyn was already in development with her own SKU, then it would be cheaper and easier to just leave SWL30 empty than shuffle product around, potentially causing internal confusion.

Clone Wars Core Set maybe?

Echo base troopers, since they were sorta teased but not released? (other than on the 1.4) They could have been designed, and introduced, but held back until a comparable Imperial unit could be released alongside them. (Mudtroopers, Navy troopers?)

Or Mudtroopers, and something-something-Solo problems, something-something-underperformed?

It is certainly possible, but as I noted, there were two missing numbers in the past, which turned out to be the emplacement troopers. So, there is precedent for their delaying the announcement and release of a product out of the normal order.

While I certainly would like to see Echo base troopers and some other Imperial corps, I don't think that is likely for this product number. So far they have developed and announced either two units for the same faction (a commander/operative and corps/special forces) or similar units for each factions (vehicles, emplacement troopers, specialists). So, it seems unlikely they were developing some unit on its own and then delayed it to develop a comparable unit for the other faction.

One other possibility is that because the number follows right after the two released premium bases, maybe it is another set of premium bases that contains oddly shaped bases that have not all been reveled yet? We already have seen one for the Occupier, maybe there is another coming down the pipeline?

Based on the Armada experience it might be something that is taking awhile to develop like the SSD. There's still a missing Armada code in the Armada line. Maybe SWL30 is the Sy Snoodles band to add flavour to a table or Cassian Andor operative waiting for the TV series to drop.

SWL30 isn't the SKU you're looking for.

Well...

SWL28 is Premium Trooper Bases. SWL29 is Premium Large Bases. SWL30 is most likely Premium "Extra Large" Bases. We know that size exists from the Occupier. It would make total sense to design and assign a product number along with the other bases, but then not announce or release the product until later when the bases are in the wild. I'd expect an announcement and release after the Occupier comes out.

Forget the AT-AT, I want an AT-TE and Juggernaught.

Well, Armada also had to basically develop their "Epic" rules, and Legion already has Grand Army.

Obviously it’s the AT-AT.

or the Death Star.

"Introducing Death Star constructible battlefield. Includes various catwalks, blast doors, extending bridges and bottomless pits. Assembles in both regular and grand army sizes. Comes with new battlefield cards for objectives like "turn off the tractor beam", assassinate the Emperor*, and open the blast doors! and a condition card where if you don't leave the battlefield on turn 6, it blows up, and both sides loose!"

*Emperor Palpatine expansion not included

They said if they install railings they're afraid we'll be leaning all day.

Again?

It could be a product that's experiencing a long development time (Perhaps a Clone Wars core set?), or it could be a cancelled product we won't find out about for quite some time. Late in X-wing 1st edition, there was a missing sku that fueled an awful lot of speculation for over a year; I think it was only a few months ago that someone found am excel sheet shown to distributors indicating it was something called, "Heroes of the Force," which presumably was saved for 2.0's force mechanics.

Well, that resolved fast. Now start a post "What happened with Clone Wars content"
