VCX-100 to force or not to force?

VCX-100 with KJ was my favorite ship at the end of 1st edition. I have been playing exclusively Empire until I got my rebel conversion kit a couple days ago. I have a hard time finding post point change VCX-100 builds and have never flown against it in my community. I have a couple build ideas would appreciate any feedback! Question on Leia/any crew being on a docked shuttle, can they still use their abilities whilst docked? Kept my crew slots open just in case :D

Kannan list looks good. Jake being so squishy, Idk. 0 agility hurts, even with post points. Redline is still a thing, not degenerate, but will take your vcx off the table in 3 rounds or less.

His second build needs a different shuttle, maybe naked Sabine or with debris Gambit. Put zeb on the vcx with intimidation

Heres two links with good builds and ideas for Hera or Kanan.

Be warned, they are from before the recent point changes, but for the most part everything in them is even cheaper now.

@Greebwahn I think it was my Hera you liked 😃

Personally I feel Hera is better because she is noticably cheaper, the only real requirements for Hera is Intimidation, Nien numb, and Zeb which is ~82. Advanced sensors are nice if you can afford it, but not worth struggling to fit.

On GSP last night, my VCX list was critiqued and they made a point to say you cannot use Leia's ability. Rules ref says a ship's abilities while in reserve are inactive, although charges are still renewed during the end step. This my VCX list as it stands now after the points change.

You could have Leia on the shuttle but would need to undock immediately before using her ability. The shield on Kyle also adds that bit of needed heft to the hwk chassis. Lots of fun.

on your list, I would remove the Phantom upgrade, (unless you plan on starting the ship undocked and then docking as you progress in the game) and use those extra points to change the turret to an Ion turret, and give a Talent upgrade to either the AP-5 or Kyle.

Mulled it over, just weird that my once Twin-Laser turret Ghost has basically turned into Decimator 2.0, should I mod ship model for ramming?

Wedge as a finisher, considering switching to Garvin Darklighters ewing

I've been playing this Hera/Kanan list in Extended and having a blast, they do take a lot of damage, but man double tapping with 4 dice primary and then an ion (double mods thanks to FCS, Magva, Saw, Force, etc...) is just mean. Every game is a bit of a blood bath but I get to roll a LOT of dice, not care about greens and use Leia - what's not to like?!

This is where I've settled after a few games. You can use Leia and Kanan crew to make your reds white and remove a stress. Sneaky 4k.

Oh, nice! I do love flying Lando/Hera. The double i5 is great for choosing who moves first, and Lando either helps Hera get a double modded shot or snags one for himself.

I still love the idea of ramming people with Hera’s ability, thus I’ve usually stuck to Intimidating Zeb builds, but I might try out something like yours at some point. Neat spinning trick ;)

Is the 6 point bid worth it? I want to take the extra hull and Magva Yarro. My thought is to add Saw G, Replace dorsal with Ion, and Lando gets trick shot + rigged cargo chute

I like the changes! The bid depends on local meta. I fly against Kylo a lot and he is very slippery. Getting to move last with Hera's dial charging ability has been key to winning at least once.

Magva is another reason for the bid. If my opponent shoots first, I can really punish them with two attacks and FCS. I typically reinforce and focus with help from Lando. Then I get a lock on an initiative 5 or 6 that shoots first. That said, if your meta is loaded with low initiative generics then go big!

Yeah, especially with Intimidation/Zeb I feel like Hera probably enjoys the bid. There are just so many i5 options, even if many were nerfed a bit.

To actually answer the OP: as much as I want to make Hatin' Kanan work, I do think Hera is a bit more reliable. Obviously your choice of Wingmen might make a difference, but.

Has anyone noticed this combo?

This could be Hera or Kanan with any shuttle pilot. When a shuttle is docked, its carrier gains coordinate and may do a coordinate action before it activates. The rules state that a coordinate action fails if there are no friendly ships at r2. This means you can do a focus action before you activate, then take a second action after you move. WHAT!!??? Tell me I have made a mistake, but this could change my Ghost game.
