Twilight Imperium: Shattered Empire Expansion

By Tuomio2, in Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition

Hey.

I have been trying to get this expansion but I have heard that it is sold out. Anyone know if reprint is being done and when it is for sale?

I'm fairly sure it's being reprinted (check FFG's 'Upcoming' page), but I can't remember how far it is in the process.

It's in the development stage. I am in the same boat as you, I need a copy. Does anyone have an idea of a time frame on something from FFG that is a reprint yet in the development stage?

I thought the Shattered Empire expansion was still being readily produced. The hobby store near my house has 1 or 2 copies almost every time I go there

Development stage? I'm not sure what you mean by that. The expansion is already developed and packaged; all a reprint would entail is sending the request to the factory (or factories) who printed the components (as they will likely still have the necessary molds for the ships, stuff for the cards, etc), and then having them packaged.

IE, for a reprint, there is no "development" stage, it just goes straight to the printers as before.

Yeah, I hear you. However, they have it listed as "under development" on their Upcoming page. It has been under development for 3 weeks now, lol.

More like almost six months (the reprint was posted on 11/20/2009).

I wrote to FFG regarding the reprint; here is the response I received. It looks like it will be reprinted, just not yet.

Here's the response:

Sorry for the confusion there - I'm trying to convince the website designers we need more specific categories for that section of the website.

As it is now, the 'In development' section means both 'We are making a new version / upgrading / changing a game' AND it also includes 'We are going to reprint this, but we don't actually have it at the printers. When something is 'At the Printers, the production really is happening, and it's a sure thing. There are some complicated details behind why we just don't want to say 'no, really, we THINK we will reprint this'

As far as I know, no changes have been made to this game, since the 2nd printing (we had a missing card, the Transit Diodes orange card, it was missing from every single copy of the first printing!) - it's just hard to clarify that.

When we do get it to the printer there will be an estimated date, typically we start out as the time of year, and as it gets closer to done, shipping, we specify a month.

Hopefully this makes sense to you! Check back periodically to the site for more information....

Thanks for playing,

60 dolllars and a 3 hour roundtrip later we have the expansion. Basically used yellowbook.com and started calling all of the local gaming shops I could find until it was found.

I would perform odd pagan rituals to get a copy of Shattered Empire.

No doubt it is essential. FFG should just make a Twilight Imperium gold edition or something where it's all packaged together.

A combined edition would be cool, as long as it only included the two packs together. If it had "new" or "gold edition exclusive" stuff, it would cheese people off who bought the game long before.

I'm glad FFG didn't listen to people like you when they went from TI to TI2 and then TI2 to TI3. I personally hope they add all sorts of stuff that I don't have right now to the next edition of TI.

A fourth edition is a completely different thing than what I'm referring to. TI3 was not even close to the same "thing" that TI2 was - they are essentially completely different games, just like Runewars and Battlemist are only tangentially related.

I would probably be against a fourth edition in general, unless they can bring something that would really add to the game rather than just revamp it for the sake of revamping it. But if they do combine the base set and expansion, and just add a few little new things, it would cheese me off because I wouldn't want to buy a whole second copy of the same game just for a few extra things.

IE, I have TI2 as well as TI3 (though I got TI2 after TI3) - while I prefer TI3 over TI2, it doesn't really "replace" TI2, and doesn't just throw it and the expansion together and add a couple things - it's a complete overhaul of the entire game! :)
