Attack at range 0

By The_Babel, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi,

Captain Oicunn's Decimator has the ability to perform a primery attack at range 0. But, in the Official Rulings, it says :

The question " Can a ship perform an attack against an enemy ship at range 0 (with bases touching) when the range from the firing arc is range 1?" is still valid. What kind of attack Cpt Oicunn can do if at range 0 of an opponant? I mean, if he can't, then why bother having that text?

Thanks for your toughts..

From the golden rules, "If the ability of a card conflicts with the rules in this guide, the card ability takes precedence." A card ability can override the existing rules and this is one example of that. A ship cannot attack at Range 0 unless there is a card ability allowing that ship to do so, such as Oicunn's ability.

Then the question remains... Can a weapon with a range of 1-3 be used for range 0?

If they have a pilot ability allowing it, yes.

In this case however, Captain Oicunn's ability states "You can perform PRIMARY attacks at range 0", so I don't think in this case the pilot ability wouldn't allow you to use a special weapon (like a missile, torpedo, or cannon) at range 0.

Ref "Primary Weapons" and "Special Weapons" in the rules reference (pg 14 & 17).

I was speaking generically; even Primary Weapons are listed as having a range of 1-3 in the rules.
