Coversion Guidance Sought

By Deathseed, in X-Wing

Okay, so my buddy and I have finally bit the bullet and bought our 2.0 conversion stuff.

Now I just want a quick guide to converting my stuff.

I fly for the legitimate government (Imperial) and have most of the Imp and First Order ships (often in multiples).

I've bought core 2.0, the Imp Conversion Kit, and the FO Conversion kit.

So, when I sit down to sift through my stuff, what (if anything) do I keep from 1.0 going into 2.0 ?

Tokens, cards, dice, etc. etc. What carries over, and what stays in a box in the back of my closet?

I know this topic has probably been done to death, but I'm sleepy and don't feel like poking through the forum for threads.

  • Models
  • Bases
  • Pegs
  • Dial Conversion Kits
  • Tokens (Optional: You will find yourself short of the 2.0 shield tokens more than likely, so a lot of people still use 1.0 tokens (Cardboard or 3rd party) in some places)
  • Templates (Sort of! You can continue to use templates from 1.0 if you have any fancy 3rd party ones, but you will need at least the 2.0 cardboard templates for things like barrel-rolling.)
  • Dice (Yes. Maybe. Technically the same but dice are... Fickle)

Anything plastic (dice, bases etc) - keep it!

Cardboard elements - bombs/mines, asteroids, debris clouds - keep these for sure!

1.0 Cards and dials - useless

Tokens are optional - you only have so many 2.0 ones. You can keep and reuse these from 1.0

What @Innese and @ScummyRebel said. Just as a general heads up, I wouldn’t throw any of your first edition stuff until you’ve played a handful of 2nd edition games. You never know if there’s a token or something that you missed that you need to keep.

TIE/Ln dial could hypothetically be used with one of the special dial upgrade things since it has not change other than recoloring the green's to blue. Definitely for casual games. :)

Oh certainly. Nothing is getting thrown away, just reorganized in my closet with the 1.0 stuff being "filed away".

Hey did the old Imperial Boba/Firespray/etc. not make the transition?

/not that I ever flew the thing, but I don't see it on the list in the conversion box

//It's basically been a decoration since my first few games with it in 1.0 : P

Firespray is Scum only now, as is the Scurrg.

Nope. Firespray is scum-only now.

Fair enough. Maybe I'll buy a little scum sometime to fly with it. Not a big priority for me.

Actually, I pulled in about $120 on eBay from selling my 1.0 upgrades in lots by type.

Nice!!!

I should get around to that... no idea if it’s even viable though. I got Palp + the gozanti unique tie pilot cards moved.

I am certainly done with 1.0 so I could see unloading things. I’m holding on to my epic ships in hope of epic 2.0 though.

Definitely! And, if you feel like playing with them without waiting for the new rules, they work well simply by using them with all their 1st ed rules in the same games as 2nd ed small, medium, and large ships. Keeping their 1st ed points makes them worth their place in a fleet.

plus what other people have said:

bomb/mine tokens, obstacles, etc

I would keep everything. if you ever sell your collection 1.0 players wont buy if you dont have 1.0 components. plus shields etc are still usefull between editions. a lot of people have mentioned on here how they need new tokens cause they threw old ones away. and probably the biggest reason to keep it is that more people have 1.0 stuff than 2.0, so you'll remsin able to play with both groups

I'm keeping everything, I'm just sorting it all into what I'm using in 2.0 and what I'm keeping in boxes in my closet.

Since I haven't seen anyone else mention it: Keep the Dial ID tokens handy if you want to use the dial upgrade kits. The conversion kits don't come with most of the Dial ID tokens. The FO conversion kit only comes with the TIE/fo ones while the Empire comes with an assortment of them, but not enough of them to match the number of dials.

Question: What are the medium/large bases that came with the Imp Conversion Kit for anyway?

The Reaper and Punisher went from small to medium.

Large: Decimator, Lambda.

Medium: Punisher, Reaper.

Thanks. Didn't buy the Reaper or Striker yet. Plan to sometime soonish. But I do have a Punisher.

(You know I'd actually know these answers if I bothered to read the rule inserts. Crazy talk right?)
