I was understanding that hyperspace was used at store championships and regionals. Extended was system open. Is that correct or did I miss something.

Store champs can be extended or hyperspace, that is up to the store/local community.

The rest from what we currently know is hyperspace, with System Opens as other exception.

So, the most frequent and the largest tournaments are or at least can be extended, but the competitive ladder of tournaments is mainly hyperspace.

Basically, competitive xwing = hyperspace

The only exception is System Open.

The guidance from FFG is for stores to use Extended for the Wave Championships aka Store Championships.

This way events retain a mix of formats and there is less of an issue for those players who don't like Hyperspace.

However, stores can choose to use any format they wish for them.

Good to know - the one I saw so far was Hyperspace mode so I presumed that they all were.
