Rebel Crack Heads

By Phelan Boots, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I’ve been real interested in A-Wings and E-Wings since Monday. Rebels used to run 5x SnapCrack GSPs, and now 6x Phoenix Squadron Pilots with Crack Shot can fit. (Or 5x Cracks + 1x Intimidation)

Dropping back to only 5x ships can get you some great value though. I’ve included Gavin in his E-Wings, so now all the A-Wings should be Cracking in to a crit. Combining him with 4x Crack PSPs leaves 10 points left over. I took those 10 points and upgraded one PSP to Jake. He flys at the same initiative value as Gavin, has an almost identical dial once you add R4 to Gavin, and provides Gavin with a focus.

Been trying to get the Awings to get working. Have you had much luck with Crack Shot? Probably my poor flying but I never seem to get much impact with that upgrade myself.

Though does look fun to fly. Also been playing with Darklighter myself.

Guess this could fit here, as most of the ships do carry a Crackshot.

Been toying around with the discounted ships and came to this at some point. I love the idea of E-wings, but at the same time I realise that 4-pieces lists is where the Rebellion feels strong at.

At the maximum initiative of I4 I figured a bid is meaningless anyways, so coming in at round two hundreds:

(61) Gavin Darklighter
(2) R4 Astromech
(1) Crack Shot
(2) Fire-Control System
Points 66

(56) Rogue Squadron Escort
(2) R4 Astromech
(2) Fire-Control System
(1) Crack Shot
Points 61

(32) AP-5
(2) Leia Organa
Points 34

(36) Jake Farrell
(1) Crack Shot
(2) Predator
Points 39

Total points: 200

Bump a.k.a. performance update:

Took the above list to a FLGS Wave Kit Extended Tournament today. We had roughly 20 players attending, bringing in lists representing all 5 of the present factions.

My standoffs went:

- Victory against I1 generic Defenders & Palp Reaper: outflew all three pieces easily, albeit the opponent made one significant mistake that granted me an amazing turn of undisturbed shooting.

- Defeat against Wedge, Luke, & Sabine Torpedo strike: close call as we've exchanged some even blows where Gavin shrug off two PTorps only giving up his shields - in the end lost only due to R2 astromechs bringing both X-wings back from half-dead to full points.

- Victory against Resistance Aces i.e. Poe, Nien, L'ulo: have to admit, dice were in my favour, then again the list is fully capable od having double tokens spread around consistently and I was conservative with them for defence purposes. Won by points leaving both X-wings smoking on 1 hp each.

- Defeat against double-tappin' Lando & Corran: Lost to my own greed as I committed too much time to chasing around Corran escaping my pursuit on 1HP. Had some efficient bumps against Lando that I - beside denying double tap - had no way to utilise. Literally threw the game when I refused to run with Jake as far as possible, bled just a bit too many points.

Ended up 9/20 with 2-2 score, albeit could have easily been 3 or 4/20 with 3-1 given I would've been more cautious in my last game.

General conclusions:

- The list is surprisingly efficient and durable.

- AP-5 is a boss, stressed coordination is an MVP.

- Leia should go to any Rebel squad featuring turnarounds.

- Initiative hard-cap at 4 is a bummer and good opponents will know how to leverage that in their favour.

- Jake is amazingly efficient and giving away tokens.

- Don't try to tie up points with half dead ship if you're on initiative disadvantage.

Ideas:

- The generic E-wing carries a strong chassis, but I can easily see him being replaced for something else - preferably a higher Ini ace to deal with the most pesky arc dodgers.

- That being said, I am really, really put off by the idea of including Wedge in yet another list.
