Yeah I noticed that new droid too, certainly makes purple evade look a little better. Focus is probably still the better option most of the time, but I haven't done the math.

Depends if you have more Force or not. For the generics it's pretty iffy, but for the elites it's pretty similar to just being able to spend a force for an evade rather than a focus when defending.

I'd have thought target lock or reposition, since you have forcus.

Also good options, I just usually weigh my actions by comparing to a focus. This guy is basically turning an evade into a better calculate token. Better for a purple action, still not amazing. I think it's actually more of an upgrade for the lower init pilots, by the time they shoot, they'll usually have already had the chance to spend the evade defensively, if needed.
We also have to consider how much the droid will cost, and if it's worth it over an R4 or R2 unit.

Agreed - they're less able to use repositioning for arc-dodging too.
Which is pretty cool actually, making the lowly Jedi Knight less lowly is a good thing. They're still a Jedi Knight after all!

For the unbelievers out there. This is effectively like turtling up with Soontir in 1.0. and for those worried about offense you can still use your remaining force if needed as a quasi-focus...or coordinate (Palp is out there). Now I do not see it as an every turn sort of thing. I do see using it to stay alive if you got caught in a sticky situation.

Because every character needs a backstory to fit "small-world syndrome" (lol) in Phantom Menace, there was an entire scene devoted to various astromechs ("boyos", in Jar Jar's dialect) attempting to repair damage to the royal cruiser. They all were destroyed except for R2D2. R2-C4 was part of said troupe. So Artoo is close enough of a guess (especially since it is a unique r2 unit)!
I may think it's a stupid movie, but scenes like that and the unawares incompetence of the general project are why the prequels are endearing to me.
