Combo

By Cow-of-Doom, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Was messing around and came up with this:

(32) AP-5

(8) C-3PO

(2) Predator

Points 42

(47) Garven Dreis

(0) Servomotor S-foils

(2) Predator

Points 49

(47) Braylen Stramm

(0) Jamming Beam

(1) Marksmanship

Points 48

(56) Rogue Squadron Escort

(2) Fire-Control System

(2) R4 Astromech

(1) Marksmanship

Points 61

Total points: 200

Super excited to fly it. The E-Wing should be good at knife fighting (and ive got 61 points to mess around with if it doesen't), the B-Wing is definitley good at knife fighting, and with Ap-5 to hand out those juicy extra actions (like an evade for the E-wing, or linked before movement), and Garven for focuses, I don't think it should sacrifice much on firepower. Plus, three PS4 so firing/moving is identical.

Any thoughts?

Leia on AP is a better (and cheaper) shout in my books. She combos so well with Braylen, allowing him to 1-Tallon, focus and barrel roll to restress; and the ability to turn Garven and the E-Wing around and keep your actions is great!

My personal feeling has always been that if you have a ship that lives for a particular action, then stacking cards on that ship that do *other* actions is problematic. In other words: not a fan of C-3PO on AP-5 since you're (hopefully) spending your time Coordinating and not Calculating. And, honestly, a Shield Upgrade probably replicates most of the defensive benefit you'd get from C-3PO without you having to think about it, and then you've got the points and slot for Leia (which you absolutely should do).

Fair enough, I'll have to try it out and see if Leia just works better in the squad. I know the 3P0 pick on AP5 isn't the most conducive option out there, since everyone wants him to be coordinating. This being said, I'd advice anyone to give it a shot, as it's been one of the most effective combos I've seen. Its against the grain, and doesn't fit everyone's playstyle, but in the rounds AP-5 hasn't been needed to coordinate, 3P0 has been able to do huge work, saving AP a bunch of times, and allowing to hit back pretty well.

That being said, that may just be extra insurance I don't need, and realistically you're right, the shield might just be better. I'll definitely try Leia and see if she works better though, that could definitely be a power play for crucial rounds. I'm interested to try it out.

If I use hull upgrade instead, do you think that would be worth it to put the other points somewhere else (its still 200 with Leia Shield) or for a bid?
