What I would like in the next update. . . An apology.

By Hrathen, in Star Wars: Armada

This isn’t a hate on FFg post. I love them. I am really excited about things they have done with another Star Wars game they should remain nameless, and at least impressed with the release schedule of another one. In retrospect I can see how with all of the energy (and $$$$) they spent on other Star Wars games, that the energy they had left to dedicate the Armada was monopolized by the SSD. And for all the gripe about the SSD, the community had been wanting almost since the beginning of the game. So I totally am sympathetic to why FFg has seemed to neglect us.

That being said, they just have. Last time we got a release that included an actual new ship for both factions was when? The Assault Carrier and the Hammerhead? It has been so long I could be wrong. And I’m not complaining about the Chimera expansion, it really breathed more life into the Star Destroyer. And this lack of attention is real.

I’m not asking for an apology because my feelings are hurt. I just want things to get better, and I just don’t see that happening until FFg admits they have neglected us and tells us that things are going to change.

I mean there's a paragraph in here about how they're dedicated to improving their communication this year. The opener even addresses that they recognize there are legitimate concerns. Probably as close as you're gonna get. lol

They say they are dedicated, yet there are 2 games I have that both player bases are freaking out (Armada & Runewars) that deserve some communication 2 months ago. It is nice they say they are going to do it, now DO IT!

FFG needs to get there stuff together and start supporting this game agian, I kinda run the local community, and well its falling apart. I am doing my best to keep it together but this long space of no news no excitement is wearing on the player base. I am trying to keep my chin up and hold things together, but I have had several members tell me they are done with the game, and to see things crumble things that you helped build is disheartening. FFG needs to act quickly before the community starts to fall apart , I have hope that they will even if its just a fools hope.

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools

But WHY?! Like why do people keep starting posts like this and keep saying things like this? Would the game of Armada be better off with more communication and some support? Of course. Would fans be happier if this happened? Of course. Would Armada products make more money? Of course.

But FFG knows all of these things, too. They aren't (completely) incompetent, it's not like they thought going radio silent on Armada for a year would make the game sell better or the fans happier and more loyal. No, they know that lack of attention would only have a negative effect on the game, the product line, and its player base. And they made the decision to neglect Armada anyways. They crunched their numbers and came to the decision that for whatever reason or reasons they deemed most compelling, decided to neglect Armada. That alone should tell us everything we need to know about their attitude and their commitment to the game line.

All of you all still holding hope that FFG is going to come along any day now and utter profuse apologies and fire up the Armada foundries full time are starting to sound like a kid who's dead-beat dad stood them up yet again for that fishing weekend that they had been promising. "Oh don't worry, I'm sure he had a really good reason. He wanted to be here... he'll actually come next time, you'll see, and once he comes back he's never gonna leave again!" Like... yea, okay, I sure hope you're right. But I wouldn't hold my breath. And even if he does pop back into your life, who knows how long it'll be for? He'll say it'll be different this time and that he's made mistakes and that he'll be better, but he'll just run off again and disappear when he finds another 24 year old gf he can mooch off of with some valley-girl name like "Legion" or "L5R" or "Keyforge"... 🤣

We will never get an apology. I actually don't think companys issue apologies unless their product causes physical harm to people for the most part. (Samsung Phones spontaniously combusting comes to mind).

I just focus on our local community which is stronger than ever and have no expectations for news as I have been burned too many times to keep expecting something. I take heart in that the SSD is coming. They won't drop the SSD then put a dagger in the game right away as they don't want to be saddled with all those SSD "mini's" that nobody wants. I think we will get at least a Wave 8, it may take another year but I think it will happen. Beyond that who knows.

If you look at the Regionals Data project...

The one thing I find as a definite trend is the increased participation almost across the board. Personally I see Armada being played more than X-Wing, Legion, or Destiny.

They said the same thing in December....and here we are at the end of January and all we have is a promise that it's going to get better.

And they promised to be better about communication, period. They never said anything about 'communication pertinent to Armada.' They could remain radio-silent about Armada for another year without violating their promise to communicate better, generally.

Disney owns Lucasfilm, which owns Star Wars licences, which FFG is but one licensee. There was complaints over the last few years over the overwhelming amount of Star Wars news, content and products. Since December there has been only a trickle of of information. Resistance has some news, X-Wing has some news, Legion has some news, and Lego announced the 20th anniversary sets but I've seen little else about Star Wars. I suspect this is part of Disney's marketing strategy for Celebration, Clone Wars S7, and Episode IX.

Honestly what are they going to say? Sorry, we have our limited marketing resources on other products at the moment while working with Lucasfilm on future Armada products our design and production teams can get to market.

These types of posts are good ways to alienate new players and give FFG cause to kill the game. The games current stability is why I've noticed X-Wing players taking a look. If there are local groups that are breaking up let's crowdsource solutions not just dump on FFG. We could be dealing with much worse companies.

I think that is really all the community wants to know if there will be future Armada content. My coment was not ment as an attack on FFG, all I am saying is we have been starved so much its starting to fall apart at least in my area. I am more than willing to push though this drought as some have called it but if we don't recive content or news soon all I and the community can do is slow the rate at which people move on, and it would be nice to have FFGs support in keeping people interested in the game. I run a weekly game night we have anywhere from 4-12 people show up, but lately its dwindled significantly. I post weekly Armada games on my community's facebook page, and have started putting them on YouTube as well. I even write weekly short write ups, they are not the best but are getting better. I am doing everything I can to keep my local and the community at large together, am I the most prominent or skilled player on the fourms no, but I am doing all I can do to keep this game I love going at the very least locally, and I try to reach out to the community at large as well. It would just be nice to know if this game will have continued support, and to have the support of FFG in keeping the community together in times where releases are slow.

I mean, realistically, they probably stood to make a ton more off these two than Armada...

Considering how little we know about the internal discussion, I'm trying not to judge them harshly on it.... anymore... for all we know Mickey Mouse woke from his slumber in Valhalla and started throwing a tantrum about profit margins, or raised the cost to maintain the rights...

We've had some drop off locally recently but mainly due to exams, Christmas, weather etc. I understand the frustration but for all we know FFG has everything ready to launch and Lucasfilm said hit pause. FFG has limited resources and a lot of products to support. Another reason Runwars was dropped? The new communications team is fresh in the job and might not be fully staffed yet, give them time to get up to speed on everything. Have those who stopped playing given a reason?

How dare you generalize like that. My little sister’s name is Keyforge and she’s the most genuine, real person you’ll ever meet.

It’s one thing to moan about a lack of communication, it’s human nature and it’s cathartic, but asking for an apology?

Seems a touch entitled to me.

We listen to customer complaints because there is often valuable feedback in it, and we apologise when we fail to deliver something we said we would but I didn’t realise buying a toy spaceship entitled me to a personal support relationship. Do people act this way about Pringles?

“Dear Kellogg’s, it’s been 8 months since the last meat-flavour Pringles release. Most of the shops in my area don’t even stock it anymore. Why are you ignoring us? Pringles is basically a dead brand in my area. Your website has had 12 articles and three new releases for Frosties but only one Pringles release and it doesn’t even relate to me because I don’t like sour cream and chives.”

Once you pop....

For every post complaining about the lack of communication from FFG and how completely insane it is (true), bad for business (true) & a real detriment to the longevity ands health of the game & community (also true) there seems to be someone complaining about the complainers...

It not the complaining that’s going to drive new players away, it’s learning very quickly that this game seems barely supported.

And you know, we’ve ran out of things to talk about! 😂

Some of the older players have just gotten tired of the game in its current state and want a mix up and as this game is not getting any love in that regard they left for newer games. We also got a few new players a few months back, but they have started to express concerns of diving in more simply because they are worried the game wont continue and dont want to invest more money into it. You did say for all we know and I think that is the problem, if it was a licincing issue or something it would be nice to get a tweet or something not a full blown artical just a tweet that says "we had a hold up on licincing with our production of the SSD we will resolve this issue, but the product will be delayed we apologize for this delay." Or something like that. I saw the tweet that talked about how we would probably not get an artical this week, but maybe next week on Twitter, but I want to see more of that I mean that is a step to better communication, I just want to see more of it. In the end my frustration is more about people leaving the game and community, but given the circumstances I don't really blame them, and it really only an issue FFG can fix. Me and I think plenty of others are fine with one release a year just be more transparent about upcoming product and its development and thats all it would take.

On a completely unrelated note... I designed a cheap new device for pringles cans that would make getting chips from the bottom of the stack simple... and they ignored it....I'm kinda feeling that "Why are you ignoring us" right now. lol Even though I can't eat chips anymore.

I mean, if I'm at home, and have chicken planned soon, sure... for the other 80% of the time I was wearing those crumbs trying to get my fat fingers into that can. lol

Yeah, lack of any news, and the juggernauts known as Age of Sigmar 2.0 and 40k 8th are making it so nobody is even really looking at the Armada shelf or wants to play. No love from FFG in a long time, while GW is on fire with hits left and right, reviving old game lines (Adeptus Titanicus is selling out stock as fast as they have been able to make it, and some active rumours of BFG reboot in the works). Xwing 2.0 is seeing some love from hardcore tournament crowd but most of the casual/non-competitive players I know seem to have gone back to GW, excepting occasional pickup games. Most of the other games that seemed to be getting some real momentum have been faltering in the wake of the rejuvenated GW monstrosity; Dropzone/Dropfleet got acquired and lost distribution and have some quality setbacks, so basically have been almost impossible to get in the US, WarmaHordes kind of have their fanatic fanbase but seem to be diminishing. Legion I have never seen anybody playing, Runewars is effectively dead, don't even here about Infinity, Bolt Action seem to be doing fine. I have a few people interested in Armada, who I hope to get playing with soon, but it's difficult to get any real interest amongst new blood players, given there is no news, no new product, stock is sometimes difficult to track down, etc.

Very effective way to kill off what was once a pretty popular game line with a fairly fanatical player base... Anyways, doing a Clone Wars variant would be amazing, and no reason to hold back on teasing us with news, dropping developer hints, etc.
