You know what else is scary? Afterburners on an Expert Handling Y-Wing.

You can boom and zoom PRETTY HARD with Afterburner Y-Wings.

I know I read this comment because I reacted to it, but I wasn't actively thinking about it when I built my list for tonight, I don't think.

Still, Norra with those upgrades and Proton Bombs thanks you, and I'll let you know how she does 😜

Lemme' know, I'll be giddy to see!

Well her proton bomb did pretty good.

Everything else fell to ****, though. Just new to this list and did a couple things in poor order.

Oof. My condolences. Guarantee those Afterburners can do some good though. Gonna' try to build an arc dodging Y-Wing tonight.

Second round went better. Hardly anything i5+ that I’ve faced, though.

Echo loves Afterburners. I'm now having an actual dilemma over them v Collision Detector. Was too much of a luxury at 8pt v 5pt.

What do you have as a list with Echo? Both sounds like fun. :)

Basically every Empire list I make for Extended :D

Juke and Col Det have been stapled on every time. I've run her with Juke Rex and APT Rhymer, that was pretty good. Another squad with Vermeil and an Onyx, all Juke. Kinda mixed with that one but it has potential. Possible favourite is a slim build with Vermeil, Kestal and APT Rhymer. That's needing a rework after going up to 205. Echo had both Col Det and Afterburners in one build there, she was a boss.

I don't often manage to justify loading her right up, she doesn't really need it. But with Outmanoevre, 5th Bro, Afterburners and Col Det, she'd be a hilariously awesome flanker. I'm certainly gonna try it.

still can't take them on ARCs

so unfair :(

on a more serious note, Afterburners pretty much exemplifies the best of 2nd edition. Its condition is player dependent (fully executing a high speed maneuver) and it has limited use, making your decisions matter a LOT when the time comes to utilize it. More importantly, it's fun as ****.

outside from the fact that, like with most things, higher I benefits from it WAY too much over lower I, it's basically the perfect upgrade

High int benefits more but low init blockers or mid init things that typically struggle for locks dont hate it.

Just wish it had one more charge, you know?

If you don't mind taking your sweet time, there's always Chopper and Elusive. :P If not I guess you're stick with Quinn, but then again a perpetually boosting little bastard with an Ion Cannon or Proton Rockets does seem fun.

True, but the lower cost does make it easier to justify using. Dropping to 6 points makes it a valid option to equip a heavy swarm of strikers with (as opposed to mines, shields, or seismic-and-bombardier), and afterburners + ailerons make those things ridiculously squirrelly, even without a speed 3 hard turn.

It also gives TIE Interceptors a modification you might actually want that's cheap enough to equip a squad of 5 generics with. Fragile as heck, but afterburners + autothrusters does let you dance like crazy.

The only problem with putting them on Strikers is that those have a very limited access to 3-speed manuevers (3 in total). Personally I think I'd rather take Interceptors, with 7 different compatible moves. Because of ailerons, Strikers can already modify their turnaround moves reasonably well, unlike Interceptors.

TIE Advanced x1s with Afterburners could also be an interesting choice, seeing as not only do they match the Interceptors 7 moves, they also have pretty bad action economy and no native boost. Pretty sure this card is stapled to my Vader from now on. Going to try out the Composure + Afterburners trick with Talonbane today, but I'd imagine it'd be just as useful on Stele.

Yes and no. With ailerons thrown in, each of those three 'dial' moves has 3 potential end positions, for an 'effective' 9 speed 3 moves. The TIE interceptor's talon and koiogran moves being speed 3+ is worth noting, though.

I agree it's a great buy for TIE/x1 aces, though - especially both Vader (because Vader) and Ved Folso, whose ability makes him want to fly squirrelly but who needs all the help he can get to do so.

Sorry. Double post. Can't find the delete button. < whomp whomp >

Ive always loved this card even at 8 points for my I5s and I6s. Its really good offensively for ships that really want range 1 like Corran, guri and talonbane. A guri that moves then boosts then bank barrel rolls to outmanouver with a range 1 bonus focus is crazy.

But it is also ridiculously useful defensively. Ive used it countless times to boost out of kill boxes with vader or wedge. In some matches its worth 5 or 6 shield upgrades.

Now that its 6 points i would consider putting it on lower initiative ships. As others have mentioned it is a fantastically designed card. A powerful ability that you need to be moving fast to proc and only has 2 charges.

My only beef about this card is the fact that i only have one copy. Can we please release this with a new upcoming ship??? I supply all the materials for my gaming group and usually more than one person wants to use afterburners. I dont want to buy another fang or another core or proxy or buy online. Thanks FFG!
