I much prefer the drop down menus of YASB 2.0, the ease of switching lists and factions, and the printed squad list includes as much or as little information as I like.

YASB printout are absolutely brilliant! It is so nice to just show up at game night with a sheet of paper with everything on it! I never take out the cards anymore (I'm not even sure the guys organizing tournies would care) ;)

LaunchBay Next

Also the best Android app. App is clean, updates quickly and the dev, Andre, is attentive and courteous in emails should you encounter an issue.

I think it needs to be said that the official app has had a short life, apps take time to develop so it is only natural that they lack the features depth of other apps.

I use LaunchBay for example, and one key feature I need is favourites (I'm that type of listbuilder who creates 6 or 7 lists in a row, so I end up with a lot of crap; favourites allow me to do so without losing the key ones in the see of crap).

But don't be too harsh on the official app, it is a great concept and I like that FFG has taken that route.

Yeah, but isn't LBN just as young as the FFG app?

Agreed, and this is what the official app needs to do.

I actually have a hard time reading the stat bar on YASB. There is just not enough contrast to make the numbers easy to read.

Not all of us are 25 anymore.

I hear you! Barely, but still !

Printing in colors does help though.

Eh, out of all the features it would be nice to have, this one is by far the lowest priority for me. So far, all the cards fit in a single-row card box, and if I need more copies of a card than I have, I can just build the setup once and say, "All my gunboats have this loadout," or something similarly explanatory.

Actually, for me, it makes it worse. :(

I mean, I guess I should really ask @raithos if this is something that can be easily adjusted.

Like, maybe using the light gray over the stats, and the dark gray over the ship name/icon. And maybe making the ship name white for better contrast with the dark gray.

Or making the whole thing bigger, for us Large Print Reader's Digest subscribers.

Reading the stat bar is probably the single biggest issue for me. . .both for YSAB 1.0 and 2.0.

I'm like @NilsTillander. I really just want to print and play and leave the cards in the back of the closet.

If I could do that on the official app, I would be so much more amenable to point changes and the whole "incomplete cards" thing.

Cards have become more of an ashtray for tokens than a real working game component.

Fair enough. Coming from a card game background, I just don't think the game feels right without actually having cards on the table. Setting them out; picking them up to see what they do; the cards are part of the fun!

But this is a miniatures game. . .not a card game!

The cards are just there for me. It's all about shaking those reds and greens and screaming "Hot dice! Hot dice!!"

picking them up to see what they do;

Holding then 2" from your nose. Squinting hard to read the text. . .

Yeah, I do that too.

Just think of the printout as a lightweight, 8.5x11 card.

Dice hate me. Any game I play, dice hate me. They are, at best, a necessary evil.

I think we should be very harsh on the official squad-builder. That thing should be at the least the Cadillac of squad-builders. It is barely a no options Taurus. I access the thing via a PC web-browser and my list of saved squads shows points next to each title. On Kindle though that list doesn't show the points. (And I'm considering violence against the thing for trying to push an app that isn't compatible with the device.)

As noted the nested scroll bars are an abomination of UI.

With points changes being a thing the official app should be much better. I mean it isn't like they had several options to look at and model the app after or an entire community of users to get feedback from. And they have put no consideration into feedback or notices about the points changes and how that begs for some sort of revision management.

And we now even more have the problem of not being able to look at the cards on the table and know if the list is legal.

That is no excuse. FFG has had much longer to develop their app than all of the other 2.0 list builder authors. Oh, and a team of paid professionals to do the work.

My big pet-peeve about FFG's app is the collection interface. It doesn't add any value at all. It should be able to tell you if you own all the components needed for a list you are working on, but it doesn't. Compare that to LaunchBay Next. It has a full featured collection system that even incorporates a cloud backup. I found one small piece that it was missing (the ability to add individual pilot cards), emailed the author to request it, and he had it implemented within days.

Honestly, all I use FFG's for is the card browser.

There’s a third party website for that too:

infinitearenas.com/xw2browse

If there is functionality you’re wishing this browser had, let me know!

Someone should make alt-arts of Heroic featuring the logos of the apps.

Don't forget this app. Best one in my book:

Agreed. X-Wing 2nd Ed. Squads Designer is by far the best one in my opinion and my go-to.

Will consider it. Not sure what can be done I don't want to deviate too hard from the 1.0 layouts.

Then not so much the format, but flipping tha shades of gray for contrast.
