Extended Fang Fighter Swarm

By Greedo_Sharpshooter, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Drea/Trick shot/Dorsal Turret/Hull Upgrade (48)

Skull Squadron Pilot/Fearless (53)

Skull Squadron Pilot/Fearless (53)

Zealous Recruit (44)

total: 198pts

This squad should remain virtually untouched by the pending points adjustments. Thinking of taking it to a local event this wknd.

I could drop the two fearless and play 3x Skull Sqdrn Pilots for same points but im kinda liking having a dedicated blocker in there for some range control for my other ships.

thoughts?

A fang isn’t the best blocker, too squishy.

Maybe a scurrg or Kihraxz?

its actually not bad. its face-off ability gives it some survivability. the squad wants to close distance as fast as possible or hold back for a few turns and then pounce with fangs facing the enemy at close range. its a high risk, high reward strategy that can catch opponents off guard. Ideally u get them to bump and lose actions with the Zealous Recruit jumping into blocking range. If they are Turing then it can mess with their formation and leave them vulnerable to flanking shots from the skull squadron pilots.

if ur up against something heavily shielded like an upsilon shuttle then you take it on head on with all ur fangs, Drea from range 3. you will lose a ship but ur plan is to do just that in exchange for putting in some large damage.

Generic Kimogila fits the cheap durable blocker mould and could be a good substitute for the zealous recruit. its a fair bit slower but can soak up large amounts of damage from anything firing from behind their formation while blocking.

Fang Fighters want to be at range 1 or range 3. Like every ship with low hull and no shields u ideally want to limit multiple shots into them but they're surprisingly resilient at range one due to their face-off ability. Like I said, high risk - high reward. if u can keep them in close on their flanks using talon rolls or sharp turns and boosting or barrel rolling into linked focus actions then you should be able to keep them on the back foot.

Probably don't want to face an imperial aces list with this list but u have decent firepower to be dangerous.

Hmm, I was thinking about something more barebones:

Drea with Dorsal Turret, 3 Recruits and L3-37 in Escape Craft with Tactical officer. 1 Ship more with coordinate ability. Naked Fangs are very good for their points. I don't think Skull Squadrons are worth it. Going with cheap guys here would be the best solution.

We have a guy locally flying Han with Hotshot, Trick Shot, & Title with 3 baby fangs in Hyperspace and it is solid as heck. Those things don't go down as easy as you'd think - it's like flying 3x shotguns.

this is the exact squad i flew in a hyperspace tourney last weekend. lots of fun to play.was 2-1 before hving to drop in the last round.

i love fenn but im starting to think replacing him for scum han falcon could be needed moving fwd. gives the list a few different options.

Very Elegant.

I keep looking covetously at the Fang as a ship I want to try flying - plus it comes with lovely, lovely afterburners modifications.

The other option would be 4 recruits with torpedoes - either advanced proton torpedoes to help hammer someone at range 1, or ion torpedoes to get the range 1 shots, or (probably better) a 2-and-2 combination of both.

this looks pretty solid. thoughts?

Put drea in a Y-wing and you are golden 😉

Keeping Drea and the recruits together while flanking with Fenn sounds like a good plan. Don't know if Drea pimping two ships is enough though.

conventional thinking says play all cheap generics with drea so fenn could be a generic but thats giving up a lot of information when u move after higher init ships.

A few thoughts:

  • If I was doing Drea + 3x Fang, I'd go all three Skull Squadron Pilots, but with cheaper talents than Fearless. Maybe just Crack Shot. That'd leave 5 points for Drea. Dorsal/Expert Handling? Dorsal/Trick Shot? Ion Cannon Turret?
    • *edit* Eh, this was discussed above. Still, I think it'd suit my style most.
  • When it comes to 3x Zealous Recruit + Ace, Fenn Rau is the natural pick, but I wonder about Old Terroch with Fearless. That might be a good swarm-leader type card, stripping away tokens from the main target. There's a lot of spare room in the list which isn't really worth filling, however.
  • 4x Zealous Recruit + Mining Guild Sentry. Adding an extra ship is sometimes worth considering.
  • Then there's this oddball. A mix of tractor control and Fang stuff.
    • Drea Renthal (Trick Shot, Ion Cannon Turret) 48
    • Zealous Recruit (-) 44
    • Zealous Recruit (-) 44
    • Jakku Gunrunner (-) 32
