Emperor

By ScottGilbert25, in Star Wars: Legion

So what are people's thoughts on the Emperor?

The emperor did nothing wrong.

he gave his life preventing the rebels from using their planetary core mining device on civilized imperial worlds.

he was a true hero.

He's similar to Vader, slow, sometimes challenging to play, but you can achieve spectacular results when he's played well. Pulling the strings can be brutal with snow troopers (move + shoot) and snipers.

With his Entourage keyword I pretty much staple a squad of Royal Guards to him when list building

going to try my first game with him tonight, ill report back!

I have only used him once and unfortunately the guy I was playing was using him too. And now you will die was devastating. We both played it at the same time and I lost the die roll. Ended up wiping practically my whole army out. I need to get more line of sight blocking terrain but boy was that a lot of fun!

He has a butt for a face. I mean, I get that he was scarred in a terrorist attack, but you'd think the monarch of a galactic empire could afford some reconstructive surgery or something.

Oh, you mean in game. Well, he's incredibly powerful, but ultimately self-destructive. Sometimes that pays off, other times, not so much.

what are you saying? he looks like a kindly old man in all the holovids

like you can see here where he is trying to help a misguided fanatic untill the fanatic breaks the equipment and rejects the path of goodness.

Yeah no joke. My first time playing him I was losing early on but late game dropped his 1 pip and literally wiped out 3 full health trooper squads. Completely changed the game.

He is very similar to Vader in some ways but very different in others. They're both extremely slow and have short range so sometimes difficult to use but while Vader can run out into heavy fire and be ok with his 8 health Palpatine needs his guards to save him or some good terrain. But And Now You Will Die is out of this world amazing! And he doesn't necessarily fully self destruct himself because when he plays that card everything around him dies and then he's left with one health but there's nothing left to finish him off. So then when that happens I just hide him somewhere and do pulling the strings because he doesn't even have to have LOS to whoever he's helping!

after my first game with him, I will definitely be using him more over Vader. i ran him with two royal guard units and just decimated. I actually like those units better than the wookie warriors.

the key to palp is to get safely in range 2 of multiple units and just "you get lightening and you get lightening and everyone gets lightening!" Take the first couple turns hanging back and staying in cover.

I have been having trouble with the FD laser turret lately, seems that if its deployed properly and you dont have a direct answer for it, it can be really troublesome

That turret stinks because line of sight is from the top of the dish. I might start running bikes again just because of that thing. I have my last Rivals league game on Wednesday and I don't know if I will run Palp or an Officer. I don't know what to do.

strike teams outside of its range/bikes seem to be the way to go, i was even debating of throwing veers in just to be able to drop maximum firepower on it.

next game will be trying out the medical droid/officer. i think palp having a pocket healer will be awesome

That sounds like a great idea for Vader and Palp.

Sheev seems to be a good area denial piece- set him up with some guards near a pair of objectives and he's very hard to shift, especially if LoS is blocked.

Pull the strings can also be used quite imaginatively in terms of giving extra movement, though the standard double attack from a well placed unit hurts.

So far Solo's command cards have been very handy in stalling Sheev. That and a highly unlikely airspeeder attack that wiped 4 wounds off the dodging Sith Lord.

Based on what we see in Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith, I feel like I want a dark side only force upgrade that grants Jump 1

You could call it Force Levitation. Just something to simulate the fact that we do see Vader and Palpatine jumping around a little bit. They would still have speed 1 to limit their mobility compared to Luke but wouldn't be utterly outclassed by his mobility amongst buildings. You could make it cheap (maybe 5 points) but make it an exhaust card so its not an auto-take

Vader should have come with force jump 1 for free.

Think the designers went a bit overboard with the slow and menacing

There are still more force powers coming that may improve Vader

Saber Throw mitigates a lot of those concerns. 2xSpeed 1 moves and a range 2 attack that almost guarantees 3 damage is a pretty decent threat.

Maybe 2 damage, but nothing is guaranteed. His ranged weapon is better than Luke's, for sure

Sorry meant for getting around the table, silly that Luke can jump over things 5x his height yet Vader has to walk around a small wall or clamber.

and yet they are the same person... from another, no less certain, point of view.

Lying your a** off to your students. Apparently it is second only to running and hiding when things go wrong, in the Jedi Code.

I won't be buying him, ever. Unique characters give me the heebie jeebies.
