Card sorting

By SoontirFel, in X-Wing

Obviously have too much time on my hands - anyone else this sad? 😁

Being more of a book flicker, rather than an app scroller... All imp ships, sorted by ship, limited and then initiative with current points cost for easy browsing in a card folder.. Will update points stickers as they're changed...

Upgrades next though, not today... I'll save that pleasure for my next day off!

I stopped putting pilots and upgrades in binder pages. Every new expansion caused you to need to redo the book. Then you'd have a one-of upgrade that needed to go in the slot you'd just had four of something in and cards would fall out if you turned the binder wrong.

I got some card boxes and cut up and folded some paper for dividers. Ships alphabetically by type within their faction. Pilots by initiative value. Upgrades alphabetically by name within their type with the types alphabetically ordered in the boxes.

I do up lists before gaming and pull the cards for lists and take then to the venue in a "deck box." I've organized my models such that I just need to make sure the foam with the ships in my lists is in the bag. I also tend to make sure I've set the ship base up with the proper tokens when I do up the lists.

I don't like to spend gaming time looking for my cards and ship tokens and pegs and such. I got the games products pluck foam and try to keep ships as "assembled" as possible and keep their parts as together as possible. I try to keep it so that I can set up and tear down as quickly as possible.

I recently came to the same conclusion. In first edition I liked having the cards in a binder so that I could open up the binder and select pilots and upgrades while seeing all my options, but in second edition I’m finding the binder to be more troublesome than its worth. List building is all done in apps now, so I don’t really need to see all my cards at once, I just need to be able to find them. Plus with all the conversion kits- even though I’m not saving more than a half dozen of each upgrade- my binder is full to bursting- and I haven’t even added FO and Resistance to it yet.

So last night I picked up a couple deck boxes and I’m currently putting my Gimp skills to work making some card dividers with ship/upgrade icons for easy sorting.

So I'm a filthy casual who just plays with my buddies. For 2.0 we've all given up on cards altogether. My cards from the conversion kits are still in the shrink wrap. We build our lists using LaunchBayNext or YASB 2.0, import it into the Custom Quick Build website, print, and play.

I still have a binder, but I use it for ship base tiles and dials.

It's great spending so much less time on overhead bull. I used to end up with a stack of 1.0 cards waiting to be put back in the binder. Not any more!

I never used the cards at all; somewhere around April of last year I decided to get organized, and bought a binder and a box of pages for mini cards.

Then 2.0 was announced and mini cards where discontinued, leaving me with a nearly full box of pages I'll never need anymore. Also, since the new cards are useless without a PDF, why would I need to reference them? So a shoebox it is.

I still only play with printouts; since every mission is different, it's print, play, recycle.

Also, some dude came up with this printout that has all the upgrades along with the chassis all in one beautiful graphic. Who could ask for better? 😍

I wound up doing something similar. Binders are too fiddly to update. I have my collection in those clear plastic card boxes. One each for Imp, Rebel and Scum, and two big ones for all the upgrades. Then I have a card box with my "most used" pilots and upgrades.

I need to start doing this.

I switched to card boxes as well. I ordered some sweet card dividers from District Foundry on Etsy that I'm pretty excited about.

I keep all my cards in clear card storage boxes. Each faction has their own box for pilots sorted by ship type which makes adding new pilots easily. Faction specific upgrades are stored with the pilots as well. The other boxes store Secondary weapons, talents/Force abilities, illicit/modifications/systems, and crew/gunners have their own boxes.

It SOUNDS like a mess, but it's not. I only have up to 4 for most upgrades in these boxes, but a LOT of upgrades I just don't use, so I only throw in one or two in there (I bring them just in case another player in the store needs a card).

It seems complicated, but this system has worked out well for me more than I feel a binder system would.

I have them in a binder, but I'm new at this -- started with 2.0, but I did pick up a conversion pack and a few other cards on Ebay.

I also find it cathartic to alphabetize cards -- I've got them by card type / pilot faction and so OH NO I GOT SOMETHING NEW time to sit at the table and organize things.

edit: Nevermind, I found them . They look pretty cool, but I’m not sure how I feel about the little tabs on the top that lay over the cards. It seems like it would make it harder to get cards out of the box when they’re next to the dividers, especially if the storage space gets tight.

Exactly this! 👌 😍

Ken from District Foundry here. So I designed them with the horizontal tabs because there are so many card storage options out there and several of them have only enough space for the cards themselves, especially the nicer card boxes since they're really meant for MtG cards. The tab is horizontal to accommodate those boxes where vertical tabs wouldn't work. And yes, if you have cards that are next to to dividers, you have to push back the stack to get those out.

Personally, I use a 1800 double sided vertical cardboard card box. Left side are all upgrades, right side are all factions and pilots. There's plenty of space for expansion and in fact, I have to keep some sort of space filler in each for now. Once the two new factions come out, that'll eat up most of the space.

I have binders for the pilots and 2/3 each of generic upgrades, a small Vader world's binder for what I take to casual night and tournaments, and the rest are stored in boxes and/or sold off/traded as needed.

I'm more of a sleeve them and put them in a card box guy. For pilots, I sort by faction then alphabetically by ship then Initiative then alphabetically within initiative values. For upgrades, I sort by type then by faction then alphabetically.

I need to store all my extra upgrades in a separate box. I just don't need to carry around 12 of every upgrade.

I like your organization scheme. I might have to spend a few hours shuffling cards. Oh no!
