What to expect from the Republic? From Democracy?!

By SDCC, in X-Wing

I'm extremely excited to get my hands on this new faction. As someone who has long been an Imperial and Scum playing, they feel like they might be quite different for me. In a good way.

So I was wondering...What are you expecting from this faction?

What do you think the common components of lists could be? I know we don't have points yet but we can guess.

What other ships could be coming? ETA-2 PLEASE.

I'm in a bit of an X-Wing lull at the moment. I'm hoping these cool looking ships will be just what I need.

Confirmed

V-19 Torrent

Delta-7 Aethersprite

ARC-170

Wanted

'New' Y-wing

Naboo N-1

Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor

V-Wing

LAAT

Z-95

Republic Gunship for the future please !

Wouldn't be surprised if we see the Naboo Starfighter in Wave IV. Maybe a 2/3/4/1 statline with boost, lock and focus, and mech, mod and torpedo slot?

A better Y-Wing?

I think a Y-wing in it's prime, brand new with it's armour plating, would be a solid addition. And cool!

Yes! That lovely yellow thing needs to be in the game. Seem like well thought out stats too.

That's exactly what I am talking about. A nice and shiny Y-wing as it was suppose to be!

I've updated the original post with what we know is coming and what we'd like to see.

Given that Operation Cinder (the same comic and gaming event which gives us Shara Bey and Inferno Squad) has the republic using them, and forces of destiny has ahsoka and padme using them, in addition to their episode I and II and clone wars appearances, they have to be THE most recognisable, arguably multi-faction, ship which isn't currently in the game.

One even shows up in the cold war era.

I'd be shocked if they're not one of the next few releases announced.

I think that the Eta-2 will be more or less an Interceptor Prototype so as to both differentiate itself from the Delta-7 and to have that Autothruster lineage continue. Autothruster ship ability, 2 hull, 1 shield, no mod, and 2 red dice with a config that will proc another die being rolled (maybe having at least 1 force charge at the ready when it's your turn to shoot? It would be an interesting bonus-die conditional that differs by placing a higher priority on a value other than Initiative, in this case, force capacity and management). Maybe make all the turns white, keep it from repositioning with stress, and/or other means so that Anakin and Plo don't become the I6 Kylo that we are fortunate not to have terrorising us.

Prototype Autothrusters: After you have fully executed a maneuver, when you perform an action, you may perform a red boost or a red barrel roll action.

Boom. I6-proof, which also makes the FO's force user interceptor feel a little more unique despite an ability that procs only once a tourney or so. Also, there no longer is a fear for keeping its 2-turns blue now.

That would be one of the most disappointing releases in the game. Remember the Empire was about mass production at the cost of individually weaker ships. The Jedi ships were the opposite for obvious reasons. So if it were to be apart of that lineage I would expect to have better stats than the Interceptor, not worse. But also remember the V-wing is out there as well and it is also an interceptor-like ship. I expect the Actis to similar to be very similar to the Fang in design. There was a thread dedicated to this discussion directly.

Forgive my sins that have incurred your rightful wrath.

You missed the gunship, the LAAT.

I would expect to see Clone Wars Y-Wings, Clone Z-95s, LAAT gunships, ETA-2, V-Wing, Nu-Class Shuttle, and maybe the Twilight (G9 Rigger)

I'm thinking 2/2/4/1 or 2/2/2/2 with Barrel Roll in place of Boost ( maybe Barrel Roll and Boost) and capping out at speed 4. This is just going from what we saw in Episode 1 (haven't seen the cartoons, though I don't expect much from them in accuracy of capability presentation) and how they flew in relation to the Vultures (though that definitely has bias canted towards the N-1 due to faction being the "good guys" and it being the crescendo space battle).

It is a very safe bet to say that the N-1 Naboo fighter from Episode 1 will be released for X-wing. If it is in the movies, it is cannon and even Disney can't touch that. Well, they could so maybe I shouldn't tempt fate (not like Disney will remake Episodes I through IX). The only question is in what wave, and when.

If card art superstition is to be held to, Wave 4 seems likely. Wave 5 would also seem reasonable, if they give the new stuff a break for some more reprints for Wave 4.

But who knows. Wave 4 will be the first time in 2.0 history that we’re not bringing in whole factions, so it has no precident. It will be our precident for what to expect afterwards, if anything.

You can almost say Wave 4 is when the game begins.

Do they work in space? I have a faint memory of them in the Clone Wars cartoon.

Some varients are meant for space and I think even the normal ones can be in space for a time. If nothing else we got the Tie Striker in the game so there is hope yet.

While their in-space combat efficiency is inferior (their signature side laser ray cannons would not be operational) they are capable of out-of-atmosphere operations. Source: seen in the Clone Wars numerous times approach the planet surface from the orbit.

And then there's the V-Wing with the prototype TIE engines (and an Astro slot, if I recall correctly?).

I'm interested to see how "A-wing-y" those guys end up. The Republic already gets good interceptors with the Delta7s, but maybe they'll find a niche.

What would be the equivalents of X-Wings and A-Wings? I need to be able to fit two of each in a list so I can form Brunch Squadron!

Closest would probably be either ARC-170 or (hopefully eventually released) clone z95 for the X-Wings and either Delta-7s or (hopefully eventually released) Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-Wings.

The Aethersprite can be both. As an X-Wing equivalent (7B config) it gets a better hull to shield ratio and a dial more suited to knife fighting, with 1-turns instead of a 1-straight, and 2-trolls replacing 3-trolls. Or it can be a slightly slower A-Wing (blue 1-banks instead of 2-turns) with a better upgrade bar (config, mod, mech) and more action flexibility. I'm betting it'll be slightly more expensive than both, especially seeing as the generic is an I3 with a force token. Maybe 50 and 40 points respectively?
