Super Kylo without Primed Thrusters

I played lots of Kylo lately. I always equipped him with Supernatural Reflexes + Primed Thrusters. Primed Thrusters is an amazing upgrade for Kylo but increases his cost to 102 pts.

Using only SR reduces flexibility but gives you more options for the rest of the list. Imo it's a different play style you need to practice.

Have you had some experience only using SR?

No, but I've played against both.


PT changes Kylo from difficult to catch to **** near impossible - without them, he's either only single actioning or he's not using Supernatural.

102 points is a good price for what he's capable of - unless someone brings that Vader/Soontir.

I’m of the opinion that Primed Thrusters is actually the last thing you should remove from Kylo before just playing something else.

After playing Kylo a lot in 2.0 and trying multiple builds, SNR+Primed is really the only way to build him that’s competitive. Being able to boost/barrel roll after talon rolls alone is a big factor. Being able to double reposition while stressed is what makes him good.

In my opinion, 102 is a little much for that build compared to loaded out Poe (Heroic, R4, Black one, Proton torps, s-foils, ferrosphere paint) that has a higher initiative. It’s pretty crazy that 2 force tokens are valued at that much. I also find myself less likely to be using Kylo’s ability in 2.0 to hold my force tokens. I don’t like going to only 1 in a phase where I may need to SNR.

I’ve tried both. I think it heavily depends on his wingmates. If I have a support/control Upsilon shuttle that draws lots of fire I feel safe without PT, but if I’m flying Ties alongside him that can pop quick and my opponent can prioritize kylo I feel better if I have the Primed option to get out of dodge.

Without primed, Kylo's options are limited. With primed, he's no longer afraid to take a token and link into a reposition.

That being said, a Kylo list that I've had success with is completely nullified by the presence of the 3 I6+ FO aces and some support. Kylo can handle 1 or 2 I6, but he withers before 3 and a buddy.

I have no issues with SNR Kylo, in fact I’ve never put Primed Thrusters on him. I always choose to put more firepower on him. I’ve flown him the most and won most my games with Kylo at a 3:1 ratio.

Primed thrusters is a crutch. You dont need it. Adv optics gives kylo basically a full modded attack with a single focus token. In 1.0, Kylo was badass with old adv optics (now he has 2 force), not primed thrusters, and that was with stressbots flying around.

Kylos problem right now is a lack of good wingman. If he could get a couple 50pt juking phantom type of ships, or jonus and a couple bombers, he would be good to go.

I don't know where people are getting the idea Kylo has bad wingman choices... shove QD and Null in there and you have a nasty and effective list - essentially a rehash of the winning list from the UK system open...

While it is true that this list is pretty much the UK SOS winning list, just compare how much worse QD and Kylo are in comparison to their 1.0 counterparts. The game pretty much changed, the lists contain more and more ships, Kylo still has to carry the list when costing around 100 pts. However, he basically always gives away half his points and he has no more autothrusters which is really huge.

I think if you want to run Kylo, you should rather run him naked or maybe with hate (until 28th January maybe with Protons). Just look at him as a decent PS pilot (his ability is close to useless) on a really nice chassis with two calculate tokens.

Quickdraw is half as good as she used to be. The average squad list is around 3.7 ships. Thats alot of shots eliminating her shields and 1st Ed. fcs is just ridiculous on quickdraw with double taps while she carries her focus with adv optics allowing for repositioning and safety from blocks. So yeah, same ships, but list is completely nerfed in terms of firepower.

Its not a bad list. But far from the top tier that it was in 1st edition.

Right. So dropping Primed Thrusters gives you more points to spend for the rest of your list.

Maybe we should wait until 28th January to see what happened after point adjustments.

So far I've only played against the Kylo w/ Proton Torps&Hate with Squad Leader Null and Quickdraw, but it feels pretty strong. I feel like the I7 coordinate is a lot better than an I5 supernatural and gives him better offense since he can afford the torps.
