Odd numbers on game night?

Whatyado?

The odd one serves you drinks.

3 people play Take The Station?

Figure out what side they are playing, have a game play a 400pt game 2v1. One side has 2x 200pt fleets, the other has 1x 400pt fleet.

I've done this twice and it works out fairly well. The only down side is when one of the players (in this case me) really wanted to test out a newly designed 400 point fleet. I still had a lot of fun though, and a new player got an opportunity to learn how to play.

Generally, last one there is the odd man out.

If somebody is consistently the last one there for persistent scheduling reasons, rotate.

New players always get a game.

We're fortunate enough to play at a FLGS that's busy every evening of the week. While we do have a designated star wars night, there are always people there playing other games. Most of the time the odd man out has something else they can play while there.

5 or more? While the others set up and begin their games, the odd man out makes a 200-point fleet, and may use ship types and generic squadrons of either faction. Once the fleet is finished, the odd man out may jump into a game in progress at the start if the round, deploying along one of the short sides. He is now first player for this round, and first player rotates clockwise each round; throw the objective currently in use out the window. The game now lasts 6 more rounds starting from when the odd man out joined.

Other players may similarly join when their games are complete at the start if any round, bringing their fleets in whatever condition they were in at the end of their original game.

For me I run the game night and build the community, so everyone getting a chance to play before me is more important, you have to have a community leader willing to step aside and let others play, however our game night starts early enough that most people can get two games in if they want to so i still get to play most the time even if i have to sit out the first round i generally get to play the second, and even when im sitting out I try to be engaged in the games ie make rulings, help newer plays see all the options they have if its okay with there opponents offer comintary on the game at appropriate times etc.

As long as I'm not already engaged in a game I always volunteer to sit out.

I'm very fortunate to have a reliable weekly group as well as friends who live close by and don't mind playing at my place. I'd rather the people who traveled get a game in than self indulge.
