I'd agree it's not strictly necessary and if 2pts gives you something great elsewhere in the list then it's an easy drop. If I have 2pt I can't get good value from floating about though, Tac Officer gets thrown straight on it.

If I'm choosing between Tac and FCS for eg, I take Tac. But if that 2pt frees me to put Burners on Vader or Col Det on Echo, Tac is gone.

Tac on a Reaper is FCS on Vader. Sounds like a good rule of thumb.

Good point. Thanks for reminding me. My play style is to run lots of generics, so I place less value on coordinate. I usually use the coordinate-to-slow-down trick to keep Sloane out of reach of the opponent. And with high-value crew on the reaper I tend to use defensive focus or evade.

But with expensive ships like Vader I can see coordinate bring a critical component of your strategy.
