That global image of Venus is a composite of images from the Magellan orbiter from 1991-ish. It's also false-colour, based on the earlier Venera lander's colour photographs from the surface. The Magellan oribter images were derived from the radar reflectivity of the surface, converted initially to a simple greyscale. (The permanent cloud cover on Venus is opaque to visible light.) Original source would be NASA.

The Mars image is also a composite from, I think, images taken by the Mars Global Surveyor in the 1990s. Again, NASA.
