Spokane: Lilac City Open Armada Tournament 2019

By stonestokes, in Star Wars: Armada

Greetings Admirals!

Spokane's 509 Squadron is happy to announce our second annual 2-day Armada tournament. Details (such as a better name for the tournament) will be forthcoming as soon as they become available.

We have dates!

The tournament will be a 2-day event on the weekend of July 13 – 14.

Saturday, July 13 will be a 3-round qualifier with a cut to the Top 4.
Sunday, July 14 will be a single-elimination for the Top 4. For those not in the Top 4 on Sunday we will have a side event planned — options we are considering are Task Force, Fleet Patrol, or 200-point per player 2v2.

I know that several people will be driving home on Sunday, so we will be starting early enough to facilitate safe travels after the event.

This year the event will be at Uncle's Games in downtown Spokane. We are 15 minutes from the airport with several hotels nearby. The downtown area of Spokane is very walkable with lots of food options. July is a nice time of year to check out the nearby Riverfront Park. Uncle's Games shares the building with Auntie's Bookstore (yes, really) which is a very cool independent bookstore.

We have a friendly and welcoming community here in Spokane and we would love to see new faces! Please share this with all your local players. See you in July! :)

Can vouch, the first one was an absolute blast! Is there a player cap to worry about this time?

I'll almost certainly be there, and will try to recruit my group's non forum-users.

I traveled roughly 14 hours round trip to go last year, it was WELL worth the drive. Awesome people, awesome store, you will not be disappointed. If you'd like to see Armada be what we want it to be, it's by supporting independent tournaments like this.

Welcome to my Homeland peeps!

(And I might actually come to this one!)

If I'm in the country I will plan to be there. Would be a good warm up for GenCon.

There might be a player cap. I know we can accommodate 24 without breaking a sweat. More than that and I might need to rearrange some furniture. The bottom line is that we will endeavor to host as many players as we can. :)

It was great having you, Karneck! (And good to see you in Vancouver as well.)

Our prizing committee tells me that the prizes are even better this year. I haven't seen any of them yet, but I have plans to pitch in something along the lines of my Leia or Ackbar! (I want to keep the specific details a surprise for now.)

already in the cloud talkin' phase, next is the spit ballin' phase.

One possibility we are considering:

Day 1 (Saturday) would be a standard 3-round tournament complete with prizing.

Day 2 (Sunday) would be 4-player pods of round-robin, flighted according to placement in Day 1 and using the same fleet as Day 1. Each of these would have their own prizing, with the grand prize going to the player winning the A-flight pod on Day 2.

Thoughts, suggestions, comments, concerns, or smart-*** remarks?

I would perfer this because I wouldn't be able to come Sunday anyway.

Obviously my perfered would be Friday/Saturday but that probably isn't ideal for most people haha

Bit too far for me to travel this year. Maybe next time - especially if I put together a climbing expedition as well.

The 509 Squadron is proud to announce the second annual premier Star Wars Armada event of the Pacific Northwest.

Bring your favorite 400-point fleet to this 2-day tournament for SIX matches of Star Wars Armada combat.

On Day 1, we will run a single tournament of 3 matches, Swiss style, complete with its own prizing.

On Day 2, we will use the standings from Day 1 to create 4-player flights. Each flight will then play in 3 matches of round robin. Prizing will go to the winners of each flight, with the Grand Prize (TBA) awarded to the winner of the Top Flight.

Stay tuned for future announcements!

Pretty far from AZ (even though the flights are cheap), but I really like the idea of two different style tournaments with six guaranteed games.

Here is our first preview for prizing. First place overall will get their choice between these two masterful admirals. Second place will get the other one. These were custom designed and built by yours truly based on the popular LEGO Brickheadz line. Each will also include a PDF of the instructions for rebuilding the piece, in case you are so inclined.

It looks like our attendance cap is going to be 32. If we meet that cap, I am going to throw in another one of these figures (character to be revealed at a later date) as a raffle prize.

I pity the fool who stands between me and that gorgeous Thrawn...

This is just a reminder to everyone that this event is quickly approaching! For everyone in the PNW (or who plan to be in the PNW for this tournament), start honing your skills and warming up those dice! Here again is the link to the Facebook page for the event:

Please spread the word to your local groups and ask them to spread the word as well.

Hope to see you all there! (I'm getting really psyched. :) )

Only two weeks away! Be sure to get some practice games in. I was able to play on Tuesday and found myself to be a bit rusty.

You can preregister for the event by calling the store (509-456-4607) or via PayPal ([email protected]). The entry fee is $25.

I will be posting images of the prizing early next week. :D

Much excite!

Do you have a good amount of players signed up?

We do. I don’t remember the exact number off the top of my head, but turnout is looking good.

Still room for some more, though.
