Noob Question

Okay, So my players (ALL OF THEM) were wondering if when you invest DP in Skills, does it count for the entire category? Like, say it says"Atheletics:2" If I spend 2 DP in Athletics does it bring up all of them, or just one from within that specific category?

Just one within the category. You can be a skilled swimmer, but not know how to climb. Likewise, learning to climb doesn't teach you how to swim. The default base for a skill you have not spent DP in is -30. So if you put one point in each Athletic skill (summer camp), you at least wont suffer as bad a penalty for the activities you aren't training in yet.

You must raise a skill to 5 ranks to not accrue the -30 penalty. This means 5 dp for a 1:1 ratio, 10 dp for a 2:1, or 15 dp for a 3:1.

In addition, the number for the field ( as in athletics 2) symbolizes the general ratio for all skills in the field, with perhaps an exception, which is what the bracket sets [ ] next to a subject represent.

The following is a good example.

The Theif class has a 3 for the general ratio in the Intellectual field, yet under reduced costs the skill appraisal is listed as a 1:1 ratio.

so their character sheet would have:

(3) Intellectual

[1] appraisal.

If the character were to take the advantage 'Aptitude in a field: Intellectual' then the general cost of the field would reduce to 2, but the appraisal skill would still be a 1, as it is the lowest a ratio can be.

Hope this helps.

Ohh thanks for this one. That helps a lot actually
