Solo play and scaling

By icabod, in Mansions of Madness

Hi all.

So, I currently play Mansions exclusively solo - my daughter enjoys a boardgame, but at 5 she's a bit young for the horrors of Mansions.

I tend to play with 2 investigators, picked randomly from the ones I have. My question is, if I were to go for 3 or even 4 investigators, do the scenarios scale accordingly? I tried Altered Fates with 2, and quite quickly got beaten to a pulp (could be the investigator choice, mind, or my terrible decisions). Do other solo players stick to just 2 investigators, or generally go for more? Is it much harder to track?

The app does scale according to the number of investigators you’re playing. I play exclusively solo as well and always play with 3 investigators as this seems to be the sweet spot (for me at least). Increasing the investigator count playing solo just overwhelms me with all the items/stats/abilities to keep track of , plus has diminishing returns because the mythos and combat is scaled accordingly anyway. You can always have “house rules” if you’re struggling with a particular scenario, for example 2 actions plus one free space of movement.

Cheers - I kinda expect it to be difficult, so I'm "happy" to fail. I have a bunch of board games that I've so far not won against, but it's not ruined the enjoyment yet.

I will try with 3-investigators next and see how I go - I think I should be able to cope with tracking that much (!!).
