Questions about the Squadron Packs?

By faxx2, in X-Wing

Okay so squadron packs, they are 3 ships, 1 pair and a single ship. The thing is that squadron packs have 1 ship you can't get in another expansion. However it is likely that the expansion that has the other ship that is not unique to the squadron packs will have some upgrades not in the squadron pack, just as the squadron pack will have upgrades that are not in any other expansion released up to Wave 3.

So basically you need to decide what ship you want. If it is the one that is exclusively in the squadron pack, plan on picking one up. If it is the one that is in the squadron pack and has an expansion, you are likely going too have to get both. If it is not in the squadron pack, you could get away with not grabbing one. However with the 3rd wave factions only having 3 ships each, it is unlikely you are going to be running a list of all Sith Infiltrators or ARC-170s.

(1) At this time. Still early and they also may be trying to avoid another 'Most Wanted" pack this time around.

(2) Nothing firm to support this at this time. The Squadron Packs and their accompanied releases will be setting the stage for how any future Squadron Packs will be done and it is just as likely that the single ship expansions will have the same upgrades as are in the Squadron Pack and able to be taken by that ship.

(3) Maybe, closer to unlikely.

Y-Wing, TIE/Ln (Rebels have access to 4 limited pilots), Z-95, and when the Republic releases the ARC-170. So the HWK-290 isn't unique in that regard.

ah ok. just the shared title. thats the unique part.

Yep. And the annoying part, I personally hate the Title system (effectively hard limits the number of a chassis taken to 1 in most cases, really makes having generic pilots for ships with Title slots almost pointless  )... Still it is what we have.

Uuuuh not true? The single Vulture expansion shows a Buzz droid token and the Discord Missile card. The SoS pack doesn’t. I would plan on buying both if you want all the ship-specific upgrades for Vultures or Aethersprites (that might be the only offender, who knows.)

Which isn’t a terrible problem, by any means. Nobody interested in flying Vultures will complain about having more of them, and most people are going to want three Aethersprites, if not more for painting.

You better believe people will fly 4 ARCs. They might not stick to it for competitive play, but I know I’m not the only one excited to field an all-ARC squad that isn’t limited to three of four unique pilots as your choice.

I resemble that remark. I love the idea of four ARCs. Now I'm not going to fly all Sith Infiltrators but there is a non-zero chance I will fly a Republic list with every darn ARC I can fit into it. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed I'll be good with two Republic and the ones from my Rebel collection. And if I need more than two I'm probably going to be okay with that. I love that ship.

Sexiest ship in the galaxy. They’re definitely too tanky compared to an X-Wing for them to let us fly 5, methinks, but 4 is all but guaranteed. Three with Plo is what I’m hoping fits.

ARC's are a rich man's gunboat or does it sound better when I say gunboat's are a poor man's ARC - I plan on l flying four as well

I flew three for Rebels and while the list needs tweaking being tanky enough was certainly not the issue with it. And I just dug having the three of them on the table.

FFG have a history of putting some of the better upgrade cards into various expansions to encourage ppl to buy them. Ideally there would be no need to buy outside of your preferred faction to get what you need but sometimes you may have to be a pack and a ship from another faction to get exactly what you want.

HWK-290 title Moldy Crow is one example of this. It only comes in the Rebel Conversion Kit. So as a scum player, I still need to buy it.

Just sayin'. Kyle Katarn.

Oh, for sure. I loved flying my tripARC list, and it’s one I want to pull out again. I’m just saying they should remain a little more expensive than T-65’s, since they’ve got more health. Their lack of maneuverability is reconciled some by the extra attack arc, and sure they have less agility, but.

I wonder if the ARC-model gets moveable wings. An s-foils card would also be cool and if that card could be used with rebel ARCs, we can start the countdown for the next FFG complain threads.

Tick, tick, tick....

True ARC fans will buy the Republic version regardless. :P
