Darth TIE swarm

By TIE wing, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Does anyone have any suggestions to counter the following hyperspace list in rebel?

Darth Vader

Fire control system

Super natural reflexes

85

Iden Verso

Crackshot

41

Academy pilot

23

Academy pilot

23

Academy pilot

23

Total 195

Thanks for your replies! : )

I would recommend not Iden Versio. Her pilot ability is basically an 'extra life' for a TIE fighter (it doesn't work on Vader), but she costs as much as a basic TIE fighter - you could just as easily have fielded 5 academy pilots as 3 & Iden, and you'd have 25% more firepower.

Howlrunner is the same price and boosts up everyone's shooting, or else some of the cheaper support pilots might be good - Del Meeko only works when a damaged ship is attacking you, but he gives a defensive reroll to everyone in a wide bubble, critically including Vader, not just the TIEs. Valen Rudor with Squad Leader can hand out free actions when you get shot at - Vader can spawn as many free actions as he likes, but Rudor co-ordinating focus or barrel roll to him could save him a force token or spare him a stress token.

They're looking for counter build suggestions, not build suggestions for the presented list. :)

@TIE wing Build wise I really have nothing for you, tactics wise I suggest nuking Iden (focus fire from as many ships as you can on her) FIRST then moving on to half points Vader and eating a couple of the Academy Pilots. Vader will be a pain to pin down, but it should be doable. You only have to damage him 3 times for your opponent to be down the cost of almost 2 of the Academys.

Apologies.

Then.....Yeah. Personally I'd be tempted to try and engage Vader first. Since Iden can't protect him, and he doesn't have afterburners, whilst he's squirrelly he's not that squirrely - he's basically on a par with old-style BB-8 - and without the evade action he's not that tough. Your best bet is to engage him whilst you still have your full squad, and you don't want to be trying to hammer through the TIE swarm, which is just as hard to hit, gets you half as many points per chunk of damage, and has Iden waiting in the wings to stop your first kill cold.

I'd recommend something high initiative yourself if going Vader-hunting. Wedge is a good call - an accurate torpedo is very hard indeed for vader to avoid, and Wedge has a high enough initiative to move after him if you can give your opponent the initiative. Fenn can do the same - albeit needing to get close to really do a number on the sith lord.

Wedge & Han might work.

As someone who flies a lot of TIE swarms, trying to nuke Iden is a huge mistake that everyone makes! Nothing feels better than someone taking a shot at a focused Iden when there’s a tokenless blocking Academy sat in front of them at range 1.

Why? Because I’m going to use Iden’s ability to cancel the first killshot, whoever it’s on! And once her charge is spent she’s just another TIE/ln. Functionally, shooting at one of Iden’s wingmates is the same as shooting at her whilst she still has a charge, so take your best shot!

If at all possible, ignore the TIEs- Vader can solo a list himself depending on who his opponent is, so taking him out first is paramount. The TIEs have no additional buffs like Howlrunner (other than Iden's single cancellation of damage/crackshot), so they are just going to be firing 2-dice primaries with a Focus most likely. While damaging en masse, Vader's force points, repositioning ability, and extra possible actions make him a much nastier proposition to face, especially in the end game.

So hit ad.v1 first, then bomb(?) the TIEs? (proton will definately hit cuz no shield?)

If you have the means to deploy bombs effectively (not easy with hyperspace restrictions, though the Resistance Bomber is superb at it and the main thing which should keep the TIE swarm in check), then yeah - you can probably force the swarm to scatter without exchanging shots, but you'll want to engage Vader first, if you can, whilst you still have your entire squad to box him in and chew through his tokens.

Scum has the Firespray to do so for what its worth (expensive as **** to do so). Empire has the Striker. First Order is the only faction that cannot deploy devices.

Agreed, but to date in hyperspace only the resistance has access to the trajectory simulator. Launched bombs are much better at pre-emptively whomping swarms.
