Out of curiosity,
What's the furthest distance you've traveled for an Armada OP Kit Tourney?
What's the furthest you've ever traveled for an Armada Tournament (other than Worlds)?
Have you ever gotten on a plane to attend an Armada Regional?
Feel free to measure "distance" in miles, kms, hours-driving, or hours-flying.
Thanks!
How Far Do You Travel for Tournaments?
I generally drive anywhere a half hour to hour away for tournaments. Regionals was the furthest I'd gone as that was almost 2 hours away.
I don't mind an hour drive for a guaranteed 3 to 4 games though!
Normally I run the tournaments in my part of the world, and thus do not need to travel at all. There are OP kits and Store Champs within 3-5 hours I don't attend, but I did travel 4.5 hours to go to Regionals this year for the first time.
Traveled 6 hours to a Regional last weekend, might travel 3 hours for a minor tournament this weekend.
Might travel to Toronto (likely by plane) if I can get a ticket to the Nationals.
Routinely travel half an hour for small tourneys
2 hours is the furthest I've gone, but if I go to Nationals this year that may be about 3 hours away. I doubt that I'll ever get on a plane just to attend an Armada tourney, so Worlds is probably out for me.
Edited by Bertie Wooster3 hour drive for me for Regionals.
Minimum 1 hour for most tournaments (maybe one or two a year). Optional 3 hour drive as well. Drove 5 hours a couple times. Also like 14 hours to Gen Con, but that wasn't only for Armada.
The closest official tournaments to me are in Portland, which is an 8 hour drive. I have never been to a tournament, and have opted to hold unofficial ones in the area with the three other people who play. The prize is bragging rights
I would have driven 5-6 hours this year, but the two tournaments in range were on exactly the wrong weekends.
I've flown to Regionals. Flown to Nationals. Driven 3 hours for a store champ.
Flown from Oregon to Washington D.C. for NOVA Open in 2017, flying to worlds this year.
Driving wise, the closest group is 3 hours from me one way (So 6 hours driving just to go play.) I drove to a tournament in Washington that was round trip 13 hours.

1. About 5.5 hours driving one way
2. 12 hours driving one way
3. Yep, to avoid driving 12 hours one way
Seasonal OP kits are 50 minutes.
Drove 3 hrs to the Steele Open back in 2017.
Used to have a store at 1hr drive. Now, it's basically a 2hr ride for any OP games.
I've done short of 5 hours for Pittsburgh's Regionals. I think Steele Open was about the same. I doubt I'll travel further than that for the game.
13 hour drive one way.... spent the weekend in a car essentially but is was good company and the regional was sweet too so worth it imo...
There isn't much activity where I'm from, so I drive 3 hours to game with the Atlanta Armada group. I try to make it down for tournaments once every month or two. The Regionals is there as well, so same drive. I have the bonus of my in-laws living down there, so my wife doesn't mind too much.
4 hours for a regional, 2 hours for a store champ. We have 3 stores in town, but we never get a regional.
I travelled four hours to my first store championship in Prescott, AZ. Even though only three of us showed up, it was great experience and met some good people.
Flown cross-country to a Nationals event 3 times now (GenCon 2016, Nova 2017 and 2018), flying this February and previously driven 12 hours to a regional (San Diego), driven 3+ hours for a store championship (Monterey, CA once and Reno, NV twice). Can't recall the furthest for an OP kit but by necessity should be at least one that was over an hour simply due to local traffic.
The trick is to make gaming a part of the trip, not the entirety of the trip. When I go to NoVa im taking a vacation to Washington DC. When I go to San Diego I'm visiting my brother and nephews. And of course I get to play 3+ great games with talented, enthusiastic players.
Driven across country for small store tournaments.
however, that's not that impressive, only about 75 miles from the east of England to the west
Me and the usual gaming partners travelled 4 hours by car for nationals though. That'd be the longest trip we've done, although we're seriously considering a longer trip this year for euros.
We have Seasonal kits in town, so it's like an hour bus.
For Regionals, Nationals, and Store Champs (especially if no one locally is running one) there's a group of 2-6 local players that have driven 5 hours each way (we usually drive down the day before and then drive back at the end of the tournament, so we only have to stay 1 night in a hotel).
Well...for Q tournaments regionals and Worlds so far it is averaging 10-12 hours driving (once 9 hours each way played and went home) I have traveled as far as Ireland for a q kit and UK for Nationals...but they just luckily coincided with planned trips....(or did they
)
Just to play a casual game I am looking at 2.5 hours each way.
And I am flying to Chicago although I did think about driving....if I didn't have to back on the Saturday night.
There are plenty of store tournaments within an hour's drive of me, even Nationals is local. I got on a two hour plane ride recently, on a lark, to go to a Regional tournament (and had a lot of fun playing). I live close to the airport, and the flight was cheap.
Barely any tournaments here, I never even left the town. I'm hoping to attend the Polish Nationals this year though, that would be an at least 6 hours drive, depending on where it will be held.
The only time I really play are regional events. Traveled to 2 this year both 422+ miles away. I’ll fly if my wife won’t drive down with me. Dislike driving long distance alone. I’ve. Traveled to San Fran, Seattle, Portland, and Vegas last year for X wing events.
