Great weapons with the chain feature?

By Akishma, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

I have a player that purchased a great weapon which does 2d10 dam, yet he wishes to upgrade the weapon with chain blades, and since the chain feature normally allows you to reroll the lowest die, would this mean that he rolls 4d10 and then selects the best 2 dice results? Or is it simply impossible to install chain blades on a great weapon?

Any opinions would be gratefully accepted

No. Tearing means you roll an additional die and discard the lowest. So, with 2d10 tearing, you would roll 3 dice and discard the lowest. If you had a 5d10 terring weapon, you'd roll 6 dice and discard the lowest, etc.

BTW: a Chain Great Weapon is called an Eviscerater which can be found in the IH and comes with a small chance of injuring your self while trying to use the damned thing ;-)

5% is not as low as it may seem. In my last RT session, one PC managed to shred his kneecap with that damned thing (while wearing 7AP carapace armour).

Aye! I had a Redemptionist NPC who charged, fumbled, cut his leg off and died... not a spectacular adversary but was pretty damned funny!

Thanks Graver

your advice has been a great help, so much so that I believe my player isnt going to take the risk of using such a dangerous weapon.
