I'm planning on running a (very) casual online tournament - although the planned software of choice is Vassal because it's free and keeps coming out with awesome new updates, if opponents agree to use TTS or FlyCasual or something I'm ok with that too. I was just planning on Vassal so everyone at least has the same software, it's free, usually works, and people can spectate!

There's already some great online tournaments, leagues, etc. so I'm not trying to replace/compete with any of those - the format for this will be a bit different. Teams of three will compete in the tournament, and the winner will be the best team. Format is Hyperspace (sorry for those of you who don't like that, it's just to balance out the factions) with some special rules for team listbuilding (I'll talk more about those later). After Swiss, the cut will be the top 4 teams (assuming we have enough teams) and the teams will get to decide how they pair up against each other.

There's a Discord server for organizing this stuff - due to a recent inundation of spam bots on Discord, I'll have you direct message me for the link if you're not already in the server (it's the same one we used for the FlyCasual tournament last fall). Discord is super easy to use, but DM me if you need help with it.

I'd like to get started as soon as new points drop (so the 29th?) but still join up if you miss that deadline because I'm always slow starting things... Each round will last two weeks so you'll have time to get games in.

Swag will abound, participation prizes for all (specifics TBD). Definitely bundles of custom alt-art cards, but also some other fun prizes hopefully. I will mail prizes to everyone in the USA for sure, and depending on what price I can find for shipping I'll try to get the prizes to people elsewhere too.

Given the very casual nature of the tournament: I'd like to form a team that builds mainly on generic interceptor type ships - small, low HP, maneuverable. An outlier (eg a Falcon) or a unique is perfectly fine.

Examples are Strikers, Fangs, new Awings.

Edited the OP, we're not using TTT anymore because it's so much easier to do this stuff in cryodex or by hand, depending on format.

Everything will be managed through Discord

How will teams be matched and scored?, what are list building rules, etc?

Haven't Vassaled in well over a year and barely played 2.0, so I'm in to watch the recordings, if any.

So we're doing sort of an outryder Cup thing where teams choose who faces each other when the teams are paired off. I want to do a round robin but that might change if we get a lot more people.

Hyperspace format. Each team needs to pick a single faction. Uniqueness applies across the faction (for example, two players on a team cannot have Darth Vader in their squad), and no two squads on a team may contain the same generic pilot (although one squad may include multiple of a generic).

I still need to iron out some of the rules but hopefully that's a good idea of what it'll be...

So First Order and Resistance are basically out? The new factions don’t have a lot of competitive options to fill three lists without duplicating uniques. That seems like an unusual call. Why did you decide to do it that way?
