Current meta - fill me in

By SoontirFel, in X-Wing

What is the current list restriction for official events - 2.0 waves only? Full on, everything allowed?

Further from this (and yes, likely to change as new waves come) - what are the power pieces/lists that I need to become au fait with?

Having not played proper since the decimator was released I feel very out the loop... Hoping to bring myself up to speed prior to first game

Go down to support, open "Points List", choose Generic updates and the lists of your faction(s).

For "Extended" format e everything is allowed.

For "Hyperspace" format everything which has "Yes" in the last xolumn "Hyperspace legal".

Field is right diverse. Hyperspace is relatively new, and not settled yet. In Extended many lists viable. Large ships slightly weaker than 1.0.

Some OP combos like Boba in certain configs, Whisper esp with Vader, TIE Bombers, Redline, Alpha strike proton torp aces.

But a point change is announced for 28/01, so I would just fly what you like.

Rebels in a bit of a bad shape outside of a pretty rough double tap dash list that we all can hope won't survive the points change. No big regular format tournaments to see how FO and Resistance shake up extended.

Advice to fly what you like (unless you are playing in a tournament before the 28th) is good advice because the meta will hopefully change a lot with the points update.

Free play at your local store: Extended

Thematic and Quick Build are not real formats, no matter what FFG or random forum poster tries to tell you, they do not exist in the real world.

Mysterious points adjustment apocalypse salvation incoming on January 28th.

Currently the meta is: bring I5+, Sloane or Drea or don't bother. If your ship is I5+ and a torp slot, it has a proton torp automatically stapled there.

Don't forget, hyperbole kills.

I keep hearing Rebels are in bad shape but the back end pre-Christmas Extended saw a lot of Rebel wins

I’ve been winning a lot recently with Rebels as well. Don’t count them out. I think early on people were trying to fly the Rebel ships in ways that weren’t compatible.

Imperial arc dodging aces, they are not!

I think when people stopped experimenting in Rebels and just went 'ok, I need to fly these things' they started to pick up wins.

Rebels still have plenty that works, it’s just largely not what worked at the end of 1e. Outside of Wedge/Luke/Thane lists for Torp alpha strikes, they’re mostly best off as 4-ship, still.

Pilots I’ve seen in a lot of lists or otherwise find can be solid: Luke, Wedge, Biggs, Jan, Sabine (AS), Nora (Y more often, for cost I think), Dutch, Lowhrrick, AP-5 for coordinate, U-Wings for a stronger chassis coordinate, Selfless B-Wings, and I think I’ve seen some Craken/Blount.

I played Rebel for Keiransi’s Fly Casual tournament, and most of my lists ended up being 4-5 random rebels, and I found that they usually work pretty decently just randomized, and there’s one or two abilities that really work well for whatever your build is (like Cassian and Lando ended up being incredible wingmen for Ten-Nunb).

All that to say, honestly, I think you could largely put your choice of ~40-60 point Rebel ships in a hat and pick out whichever 4-5 randomly and make them work.

No one seems to be flying it right now but Jan in the crow, Super Luke, Norra is far and away the nastiest thing I've seen.

That, or it's just under the radar and a few people are going to be upset I revealed their Ace in the hole.

Yeah, I saw this once. Norra in the ARC?

Wullffwarro survived his alpha strike with one hull, so I took a damage with Saw to trade Wullff for Luke. The problem was that I underestimated Norra.

While I could guess is there a list for the Jan, Luke, Norra?

no torps in that list if your putting super on luke and moldy on Jan with Norra ARC. but you can do double torps with her in a Y.... I'd like to see this list as it's up my alley.

I don't recall for sure if he had Moldy Crow (If he didn't, Luke probably had Torps. I don't think he flew SR.), but I'm fairly certain my opponent had the rest of these upgrades on these ships. Not sure if he spent any other points? Probably had some sort of bid, but I don't think it was 8 points... It was several months ago, though.

I see. Jan with Moldy, Luke with Supernatural Reflexes and S-foils, Norra ARC-170 comes to 183. Lots of room for expression in those last seventeen it seems.

still needs a bid, at least 6 points with all the i5 torp carries around. Luke wants to avoid those even without torps. I'm going to trial this out for sure. Jan's been sad hiding in my storage box...

I see. Lando/Jyn is an interesting combo. I've pretty much missed that one. I like Luke more with Instinctive Aim and Pro. Torps than Supernatural.

I'm more this direction:

T-65 X-wing - •Luke Skywalker - 80
•Luke Skywalker - Red Five (62)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
•R5-D8 (7)
Instinctive Aim (2)
Servomotor S-foils (Open) (0)

I'm not much of a "bidder."

With the idea of a bid in mind and more on the "Super Luke" idea. Maybe:

HWK-290 Light Freighter - •Jan Ors - 56
•Jan Ors - Espionage Expert (42)
•Jyn Erso (2)
Moldy Crow (12)

ARC-170 Starfighter - •Norra Wexley - 65
•Norra Wexley - Gold Nine (55)
Intimidation (3)
•Lando Calrissian (5)
Tactical Scrambler (2)

T-65 X-wing - •Luke Skywalker - 74
•Luke Skywalker - Red Five (62)
Supernatural Reflexes (12)
Servomotor S-foils (Open) (0)

intimidation is cool because Norra could be a fantastic blocker. it's kinda janky but I like it.

I tried a triple ARC list with a similar Norra (since she wants to get all up in there.) The trouble was she moved last being high initiative when I really need her to move first. Some form of this gets trotted out to the table soon.

If you don't nail your Range 1 engagement, ArcNorra melts fast. The red 4-fwd was problematic for me. I remember doing the 3-fwd instead because I felt I a) needed my action plus b) potentially wanted to 4K the next turn. Unfortunately the TIE bombers came in slow leaving Norra just a shiv outside R1, and she was dead soon after. All that to say I don't think Norra will ever be meta (barring points decrease), she looks great when everything lines up perfectly but too swingy for the top tier(in my opinion ... plus the fact you don't see her in the meta).

the ARC's are in a strange place for sure. I honestly think they are better with less. This Jan/Luke/Norra thing isn't in any of the recent tournaments on list fortress either... so maybe I got too excited at it's potential.

AP5, Jan, Wedge, Luke has made a few appearances.

The list provided also has two R5 units... methinks it is just a list that performed well at a casual night and turned a head or two a few months ago, maybe. Certainly nothing like it having any (documented) competitive success, that's for sure.

Yeah I'm dubious when I hear stuff like "Rebels (or E-wings, ARCs, ...) are amazing as-is, it's just that nobody noticed yet". I mean I'm not a world champ so what do I know, but it feels like the meta has been pretty picked-over by now, and I don't see some heretofore-hidden multiple tourney winning list emerging. After Jan 28, maybe, depending how comprehensive the points change are.

yea the meta has settled for now, but it won't be long until it's shook up again. I think torpedo alphas will drop in popularity and we may see other alphas show up... for Rebels probably with Jan.

I think the ARC-170's strange place is due to the likelihood they are a centerpiece of The Republic faction. I think it will turn out that if we "want" to fly ARCs we're meant to fly Republic.
