I've got 4 U-Wings and after taking them for a spin (same list as above except I had PerCo on Benthic instead of Baze, had Bodhi instead of a naked Scout, and didn't have Leia), I found myself having a LOT of fun with their Closed Pivot Wing stop maneuvers & Cassian Andor shenanigans. I made the above modifications that I want to use next time. Unfortunately had to downgrade to Baze as a budget PerCo to fit Jyn, but the upside is in a furball Benthic can end up passing a Focus or Evade and have both Focus + Evade for himself. It wasn't intended to be a Rogue One theme list, but it somehow managed to only have named characters from that movie. Does this look good, or would some other setups be more optimal? Maybe dropping Leia to upgrade a Scout into Magva for anti-alpha strike tech, or dropping BazeJyn for PerCo, or dropping Leia for Tactical Jammers?

Has anyone got experience with mass U-Wings, either facing or playing them? The only list on ListFortress that had U-Wing spam was a Y-Wing + 3x U-Wing squad that made 9th (which had no 4th U, Benthic, Leia or Cassian crew), so I'd appreciate any input I can get.

I ran a 3 U-wing list not long after 2.0 dropped with Saw, Magva, and Cassian backed up by Leia crew. It was a lot of fun to fly, basically staying in 1 small section of the board for the entirety of the match. Unfortunately, for as cheeky as it was, it just lacked the ability to really do... Anything.

I think picking up the 4th U-wing certainly helps, but I'm not sure what I'd really be able to offer to change. I don't think you really need Cassian (Crew) but other than a handful of Tac Officers, I can't think of anything really worth adding/changing. Heff Tober is a possibility if because he is also I2 and could give some action efficiency with a Tac Officer aboard... But as much as I love the U-wing, I just don't think it is where it needs to be in 2.0. Maybe once it gets some more generic crew options...

I'd get rid of Cassian crew for Cassian Pilot. Help keep the stress down on Benthic.

Leaves you two points for tac officer.

I am looking at a 3 Uwing hyperspace list and having 24+ damage on the table is fun.

Benthic Two Tubes (47)
Leia Organa (8)
Perceptive Copilot (10)
Pivot Wing (0)

Edrio Two Tubes (45)
Servomotor S-foils (0)

Partisan Renegade (43)
Deadman’s Switch (2)

With hyperspace limitations, having the tube bros. is lots of fun. I also love sending in the party U's into the fray and potentially do 2 or 3 damage after getting at least one r1 shot off. Edrio can basically have an adv. sensor like movement and 2 focus tokens when wings are closed and due to order can focus boost, open wings, blue maneuver, and take another action.

That Tubes list seems workable for Hyperspace. It's not 4x Us, and I'd miss Cassian (Crew) and the I2 Pilots, but you still have Leia and it makes do with what's available. I want to say I don't like the Deadman's Switches, but I don't know much about the Hyperspace meta and I'd imagine there'd be enough TIE/ln and TIE Strikers that scaring them out of R1 with the Deadman's Switches is probably the best use of the 4 pts you have leftover.

Got 4x U-Wings on the table some more. My opponents were not flying top meta lists so still not sure how they would perform competitively, but their lists were competently made and I've won every game so far, so it isn't a horrible list casually at least. Some things I learned:

Even with the occasional drops to 1 agility inviting bigger damage, they're quite sturdy. Obviously so considering 8 health behind 2 greens for most of the round, but still.

Baze is straight up awful for his cost. I brought him on as a budget PerCo, but I rarely ever could make use of his ability and the one time I did, I usually only could get 1 extra Focus off of it, making it basically just a much worse PerCo that stresses you despite being only 2 pts cheaper. Even on a platform like Benthic, I could only maybe see him being usable if he were brought down by about 6 pts. Even without double Focus, I felt like I was still getting decent use out of Benthic's ability, so I've decided to put the points elsewhere.

I usually would end up with a "point man" U-Wing in the front, usually my naked U, and would very frequently end up causing bumps during the inevitable furball. With the points gained from dropping Baze, I've upgraded that naked U to Intimidate + Tactical Scrambler Heff Tober to maximize the pain of bumping for my opponent, and hopefully force fire off of my crew carriers. I'm looking forward to seeing how that turns out. Would've liked getting Tactical Officer too for the white coordinate, but just 1 pt short... maybe since U-Wings are in Hyperspace, I'll get lucky and FFG will reduce point costs on parts of my list on the 28th.

Leia is definitely worth every pt. White stop along with closed Pivot Wings are amazing, especially with Cassian (Crew). I know that you guys don't seem to like him, but I find the dial information to be invaluable. Its biggest benefit was knowing with absolute certainty where to point all my guns during stops against the higher initiative ships I was going up against. I also have a problem with running Cassian (Pilot) because of I3, the list just runs like butter when you have total control over who activates first. Another reason I enjoyed dropping Bodhi. I'll consider it when Adaptability makes a comeback (the -1 Initiative part atleast, and hopefully still 0 cost).

I'm really enjoying 4x U-wings so far, fingers crossed that they can keep performing when I do face top meta lists.

Great thread with some really interesting ideas.

In coming up with similar lists of my own, I'm struggling with Benthic at essentially base cost 57pts (47 + 10 for PerCoP).

Does he justify that cost for an init2? Is a focus for Benthic and another shared worth 13 pts over just a blue scout with a focus for himself?

I really like what they've done with the tubes brothers, but I think their points costs are a little high for what they achieve.

Very limited experience of my own though so I'd be interested to hear others thoughts.

Well, you might want Jyn on that PerCo Benthic. With that, all your ships up to R3 can get Evades by swapping out a Focus, and Jyn can convert the Focus that Benthic passes into another ship into an Evade. With Jyn+Benthic you can have a ship go into engagement with Focus+Evade, which is quite a bit of defense to chew through if the enemy is targeting that ship. PerCo is great because it lets Benthic pass an Evade (or Focus to a ship that's stressed or denied it's action) and keep a Focus or Evade for himself, but I think he can live without it if the points are too tight.

Edit: forgot you could just pass Edrio a Focus, then have him use his Focus action and convert that second Focus into an Evade. So yeah, Jyn on that Benthic would be a great idea. You could set Edrio up with a TL, Evade and Focus every turn (or two of those actions before executing a Red maneuver)
