Advanced Optics with multiple Tokens

By Schu81, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello everyone!

The Advanced Optics card states:

"While you perform an attack, you may spend 1 focus token to change 1 of your blank results to a <hit> result"

Scenario:

My ship has got 2 focus tokens at the moment.

I roll <blank> <blank> <hit>

Question:

May I use two focus tokens via Advanced Optics to change both <blank> to <hit> results? Or may I only change one result to a hit result?

Once Per Opportunity prevents this.

Pretty much this. If you had rolled <blank> <focus> <hit>, then you could spend both tokens: one to convert all focus results, the other to convert one blank result, since each was being used for a different effect.

Oddly, once-per-opportunity doesn't seem to apply for using tokens that only ever convert one result, though. Assuming you have more than one of them, Calculate or Evade tokens, or Force charges, are allowed to be spent en masse during a single combat step.

With the Calc, Evade, and Force token standard effects you treat each result as a separate opportunity rather than the whole attack being the opportunity.

Compare the wording of Evade on p10 to that of Focus on p11:

Evade: A ship is evading while it has at least one evade token. Evade tokes are circular, green tokens. While an evading ship defends, during the Modify Defense Dice step, it can spend one or more evade tokens to change that many of its blank or [eye] results to [Evade] results.

Focus: A ship is focused while it has at least one focus token. Focus tokens are circular, green tokens. A focused ship follows these rules:
• While a focused ship performs an attack, during the Modify Attack Dice step, it may spend a focus token to change all of its [eye] results to [Hit] results.
• While a focused ship defends, during the Modify Defense Dice step, it may spend a focus token to change all of its [eye] results to [Evade] results.

The 'one or more' is the part that gets calc and evade round Once Per Opportunity.

Thank you very much!

All this makes perfect sense to me now :)
