Nuances of the Game

By The Jabbawookie, in Star Wars: Armada

What good choices and proper procedures do you go through that many players miss? I recognize Armada is a highly situational game and there are exceptions to almost everything, so I'll give a couple examples of the kind of general rule I'm looking for:

When bombing a fresh target with Sloane aces, hit with Maarek and Jendon last.

Due to 2 blues, a guaranteed crit and the accompanying reroll, Maarek has a lot more control over accuracy generation or lack thereof than a TIE ace. This means you should see how many accuracies the single-blue dice gods give you before making the attacks you have better control over.

When double-arcing a ship with a brace, try to make your attack pools as similar in size as possible.

This particularly applies to ships with External Racks; say you've got a Raider-1 double-arcing an ISD. For the sake of simplicity, we'll assume 1 damage per dice. You could deal 6 damage out the front, see it braced to 3, then hit for 2 more out the side = 5 total damage. Or you could hit for 4 damage out the front, see it braced to 2, then hit for 4 more out the side = 6 total damage.

If you expect an attack to be braced, it can be worth it to fish for extra damage if your current result is even.

Demolisher rolls up on a fresh ISD and rolls hit, hit, hit/crit, and hit/crit out of its side arc. It has Brunson, so there's no reason for the ISD NOT to brace (Intel officer for example). If you reroll a hit, you can either: 1.) roll a blank and taking your rolled damage to 5 (the braced result is the same 3 as before), 2.) roll a hit and no change in results, 3.) roll a hit/crit which ups your damage to 7 (4 braced).

Unless you are using Tie Phantoms in which case Maarek first.

Unless you get an accuracy on the first roll in which case add everything to it. Unless ECMs

I'd generally prefer to see if the phantoms strip shields (to let a guaranteed crit through for example) and/or roll an acc on a key token (brace) before I have Maarek go so I know if I need to fish for an accuracy or just go for straight damage. When would you prefer to have Maarek go first?

When I double arc an opponent's ship, and there is a difference between the strengths of my attacks, I start with the smaller one. This way, my opponent must make decisions with defense tokens on the first attack with less information.

Every time. Phantoms have really low odds for accuracies.

Which is why I specifically said aces and that there is an exception to everything. In the first case, that exception is Whisper.

And unless you got that accuracy on a single blue die you need to trigger Leading Shots with because your remaining dice are blank.

Minding my manners

I love it, SFB term papers all over again...

If your Arquitens has RBDs consider not redirecting and letting a few damage through to your hull.

Examine further threats to you this turn and maybe let 2-3 damage in. You still have the redirects if some extra damage comes your way this turn. Contains could deal with a crit. Over the turn break discard the RBDs and now your shields are in better shape than if you had instinctively kept the hull undamaged.

A milder version of this can be done when aproaching the base or a repair crew flotilla.
