As for Ewoks... meh. Iconic SW species sure, but not something i see everyone scrambling for.

I'll have the same rule I have for Halflings and Gnomes at my table. Prepare to meet Gary the Stormtrooper:

gonna be a must buy for me

No matter when it will be available, I'll have to add at least +6 months until it arrives in Europe... I got my copy of Knights of Fate last week.

At least, it seems like you don't have have to wait for the translation, or you would have said "+2 years"

Doesn’t this book come in card form already...

Oh well, here’s to hoping the boat they ship it on can find and tow the one with crates of “Rise of the Separatists”

Even though I understand the seasoned GMs that it might not be satisfactoy realease, I - as a relative newcomer - welcome this book, since I don't have too much of a collection, but a dedicated NPC book (similar to the CSG) is an easy to use addition to our games.

As a seasoned GM I also like the book, but this kind of book being released usually is the sign of a system being done or almost done with its lifespan or right before a 2nd edition of that system to get as much money out of the 1st edition as possible.

Then add the release issues with other books including the Rise of the Seperatist makes seeing this book annoucement a slap in the face for me

Ooh, looks like we finally got our 'Monster Manual'... The MarcyVerse is on hiatus due to various group changes and the fact our main artist had a stroke, but we are preparing for the third and final story arc later this year. The one player who enjoys butchering their way through the canon is ecstatic about this book. The rest of us, including me, are less so. Although I suppose now we can officially have that sexy MarcyVerse ewok we've been hankering for.

I wonder how many more books they can come up with that have largely recycled stuff and only a relatively small chunk of new material. Perhaps next we'll get a starships book that gives us a dozen or so new ships along with all of the ones we already have...

Oh yeah, we really need that collected starships book. We'll finally get the official stats for the Super Star Dreadnaught Executor. And Death Star 2. And the Naboo Starfighter if hasn't been included in Rise of the Seperatists.

I wish a speedy recovery for your unfortunate artist.

I love the 'end of the line' flagellants wailing about the coming apocalypse.

Last week it was the "omfg the Rise is late, no new announcements, the end draws nigh!"

Then they announce a new book and that's not good enough, "this sort of book proves prophesy! Repent sinners!" blablablahblah....

The book that had the R1 stuff, we got some basic playtest material about 2 weeks before the movie came out. We couldn't get all of the material until the movie premiered and none of that had a f-ing drop of story content when we did get it.

Now you've got a new cartoon, an old cartoon, at least 1 new show on their new streaming service, and the last trilogy movie at the end of this year all coming out this year. You can't even give playtesters already under NDAs names of guns and ships until a movie is out. You've got an IP owner that very much wants content produced by licensees being promoted, and yet licensees can't divulge even basic nouns to anyone in a production process.

Maybe one of the precognitive doom speakers could lay out a viable, realistic plan, as to precisely f-ing what sort of books FFG could be announcing and producing this year? Given the actual facts I just laid out about how **** actually works. I'm sure they'd experience pure rapture at FFG HQ to hear/read the genius.....

Agreed. I doubt very much this is the end of the line, the problem is the franchise is in a weird spot as far as a story telling type game can go so do you put out no product, or put out something to tide fans over until late 2019/2020?

1) There would be no real reason to put out a post-ROTJ or Sequel Trilogy book until that trilogy wraps up. We could see some sort of post-Jedi book to coincide with the release of The Mandalorian, but that project seemed to come together rather rapidly so I’m not sure where they would be in terms of development of a sourcebook like that.

2) Plenty of people have been asking for some type of KOTOR or Tales of the Jedi type era book. But I suspect that’s probably off the table until LFL addresses it in some canonical fashion like a book, or show... maybe this is what the trilogy by the Game of Thrones developers are working on so you’re really not going to get anything there.

SO FFG is somewhat limited with their RPG line in terms of what they can touch right now. So what do you release in the interim? I guess you do some type of organizations book, or a region type sourcebook. Like I said before we will probably get some filler books gathering stats from previous books while offering new stats and options for players and GM’s. It’s pretty obvious (based on 2nd Edition X-Wing) that FFG plans to hold on to the license so they will release product, but I think it’s clear it won’t be at the pace from earlier years.

Yancy

I hope it's not a complete reprint. I do think it would be helpful to GMs to have a central location to summon good guys and bad guys.

Any hope for more adventure modules?

My guess is that they’re intentionally spreading things out and delaying them so as to keep the fanbase tided over until they can get into publishing content for Disney’s newer material.

Sounds like it's a mix. A lot of material reprinted, but with some extra advice on how to integrate such NPCs into campaigns. Some all-new material, since no Ewoks have appeared in any books so far. Some brand-new, player-oriented material, since Ewok PC stats will be included. Hopefully a few other iconic but passed-over species will be in there, as well (Gamorreans, Jawas), but that's just speculation.

On the sample page from presser there's a Barabel. Did they ever get an official stat line as a playable PC? Maybe they're will be a handful spread throughout the book.

I think that's a reprint from the Edge CRB. Not a PC race, but a "Barabel Enforcer" NPC stat block. Doesn't mean we won't see PC stats, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Well, I wouldn't lump myself in as a doom-speaker, but I'll say I do raise an eyebrow at certain key indicators ( no few upcoming releases, releases well overdue, north-american head and former CEO leaving the company) that make me wonder what's on the horizon. But shoot, all FFG has to do is read these forums for suggestions for books, since you're asking:

  • Imperial Sourcebook
  • Corp Sector Sourcebook
  • Freakin' Jawas
  • Era Sourcebooks
  • Legends Sourcebooks
  • More Shadowports Sourcebook
  • Unknown Region Sourcebook
  • And since we're doing "clip shows":
    • Starships
    • Equipment (hm, Jawas anyone?)
    • Force Powers

In summary: plenty of material that doesn't interact with upcoming, NDA-protected canon that can turn some coin for the company. Plenty of writers willing to write it. So, what's the holdup? 😄

I may be a loner, but this is something I had hoped they would eventually do WHEN THE LINE EVENTUALLY IS COMING TO A CLOSE. I don't want that end to be here yet. I still want more books, especially era and organization ones (Imperial, Rebellion). But, I'm kinda tired of looking at a website index for a certain race, vehicle, or piece of gear, searching through a stack of books, then leafing to page X.

So, I'm hoping this is a sign (I doubt it) that someday we may be getting catalogs on: Gear, Races, Vehicles, and Planets? I think an "Adversary" catalog would also be nice with every creature or mook NPC from every book but with this new book not having such and competition with the cards, I doubt that would be done.

Your fake hyperlinks are frustrating.

I come from a time before hyperlinks. 🤭

I thought Teemo was in one of the Edge supplements, and there's a generic Hutt crime lord in the cards. I'll have a look when I get home - I don't distrust you or anything, I use the cards often and am doing that annoying "wait, do they? Don't they?" loop in my head right now.

He is. He's in the beginner game adventure. There's also a card of him.

To play devil's advocate to this...I don't think that post was a prediction of the end of FFGs tenure as the Star Wars RPG liscense holder, but rather of FFG getting to the end of the1st edition of its Star Wars RPG.

I mean, look at it from FFGs point of view (We all know how things depend greatly on ones point of view!): You've released all the supplements for your character careers, most of the era and location source books...you're starting to get a bit dry on material. You figure you've got maybe a dozen sourcebooks at most left in you, and that's reliant on a positive fanbase response. What do you do? Just shrug and churn out adventure modules? Or do what every RPG publisher has done since the dawn of time and release a new edition that (hopefully) tweaks all of the weak spots of your system while playing up the strengths?

Now, granted, that's still enough content to probably keep us going for a year or two. But you're deluding yourself if you think development on a 2nd edition of EotE and the rest isn't already in development.

One hopes that in the event this comes to pass, they provide a "version 1 to version 2" conversion like they did so graciously provide for x-wing.
