Thranduil and Gandalf

By Alonewolf87, in Strategy and deck-building

I was thinking about a possible sinergy between these two heroes. One of the "problems" with making out the most of Gandalf's ability was that during all the phases except the Planning Phase we were forced by the basic rules of the game to only play events (and sure there were ways to remedy that like Wizard's Pipe and Gildor Inglorion for example). But since Thranduil's release we have got access to the possibility to play an ally also during the Combat Phase. So I was wondering if, by the wording of these two heroes, there was something preventing us from combining their abilities (Thranduil says "play from your hand, Gandalf says "as if it was in your hand") and if it could actually lead to some good deck-building. I also think that all the Silvan 0 cost events would pair up quite well with Gandalf's ability, so that he can use a lot of those in many different phases to maximize its ability.

I wonder if it might be worth it to ask for a ruling about this.

We had a ruling which said you cannot use Gandalf and Hirgon together in that way, so I would assume that applies to Thranduil and Gandalf as well.

Dang it.

In fact, the ruling specifically calls out Thranduil as well:

Thanks for the clarification, too bad.
