First Order shoots first

By Jagos, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Ok, so I wanted to try something different than I used to fly. Two ships is my thing, but I guess in this meta FO suffers horribly with only two ships around. I came up with this list, hopefully it makes sense, so please rate or suggest changes, I am more than eager to listen.

"Null" (31)
Swarm Tactics (3)
Advanced Optics (4)

"Scorch" (35)
Swarm Tactics (3)
Advanced Optics (4)

"Quickdraw" (45)
Swarm Tactics (3)
Cluster Missiles (5)
Hotshot Gunner (7)

Starkiller Base Pilot (56)

Total: 196

Idea is for Quickdraw to target lock focusing targets, preferably most dangerous ones, to strip them of tokens. Swarm Tactics *3 does wonders, all ships shoot at PS7, so after stripping tokens rest of the list goes after one enemy ship, with Advanced Optics increasing odds of pushing damage through.

I initially thought of equipping Upsilon with lots of upgrades, but to make it be a beast I have to spend 15+ points and I don't think it is worth it.

I still have 4 points to spare (Biohexacrypt on Upsilon maybe?).

Clusters/Hotshot rather than specfor gunner is an interesting option, pairing well with shooting first. I might suggest the extra point for Concussion missiles (letting you shoot at range 3) might be worth it - yes, you lose your bonus attack, but if you plan on using that Quickdraw's not using her pilot ability and her ammo bin is empty really fast.

I dunno. Getting multiple high-initiative token stripping shots is awesome, but is it that valuable to strip it off a second ship, given that an unmodified cluster missile shot is pretty unlikely to hit (I guess it's the same as a focused 2-dice shot but since you'd be using it on a focused target that's not exactly high praise)

Given that you're not using her pilot ability (since you're making an I7 bonus attack with the missiles) or her initiative, why not downgrade quickdraw to an omega squadron expert and save many points?

Advanced optics....hm. It's not bad but it need you to roll a blank and no focus on your attack - oddly this makes it less awesome the more dice you roll unless you already have a focus modifier. It's great with fanatical or perceptive co-pilot, and not bad with a 2-dice attack, but on "scorch" it feels like you won't get your money's worth. Not sure what to recommend instead, though.
