Mining Guild Themed List

By Serial, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi,

I was working on the list below, I am going for a Mining guild list and will probably break out the yellow paint.

I really wanted to stick to tie fighters and small based ships.

I am very new to list building and wanted to get some feedback.

Name: Untitled Fleet
Faction: Imperial
Commander: Admiral Sloane

Assault: Most Wanted
Defense: Contested Outpost
Navigation: Intel Sweep

Gladiator II (62)
• Admiral Sloane (24)
• Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)
= 91 Points

Arquitens Command Cruiser (59)
• Reinforced Blast Doors (5)
• Enhanced Armament (10)
= 74 Points

Arquitens Command Cruiser (59)
• Reinforced Blast Doors (5)
• Enhanced Armament (10)
= 74 Points

Raider II (48)
= 48 Points

Raider II (48)
= 48 Points

Squadrons:
• 8 x TIE Fighter Squadron (64)
= 64 Points

Total Points: 399

Thanks

First off, welcome to the game and to the forums!

Dice control is almost universally crucial to good fleet building. Left to their own devices, the dice will fail you when it hurts most. Three of the eight sides of a red die don’t do damage; this means that you’ll statistically have a face you want to fix anyway, and fixing it is cheaper. For those reasons Ordnance Experts belongs on the Gladiator, Dual Turbolaser Turrets on the Arquitens (or Turbolaser Reroute Circuits, aka TRCs if you can fit them.) The Gladiator-I will do what you need here, which is kill ships. You can build for flak, but it’s expensive and you don’t have a ton of space. The Demolisher title is absolutely amazing and space should absolutely be made for it. Though good, Reinforced Blast Doors can go if need be.

The squadron wing has two problems: it’s really small (134 points is the norm for Sloane, 110ish is the lowest I’d comfortably go,) and it lacks acceptable carrier support. Given their roles, the Gladiator will be busy and the Arqs will manage intermittent squad commands at best. Both problems can be mitigated by dropping the Raider-IIs to Gozanti Cruisers and spending the savings on more/stronger fighters (better for Most Wanted, too.) Durable, multirole freighters even happen to fit pretty well with the Mining Guild aesthetic. With swarm fighters, Howlrunner is well worth her points; in fact, all the TIE aces are with Sloane. Intel is also key, both for greater freedom in the squadron battle and to ensure you can hit when you need to.

Superior Positions is pretty much the ideal blue objective for squadron lists, allowing a potentially incredible amount of points from hitting enemy rear hull zones with fighters. For yellow I’d consider Hyperspace Assault, enabling the Gladiator to pop out into a relatively safe spot to wreak havoc on the flank. If you go this route, be sure to either not keep Sloane out of the fight too long or put her on a Command Cruiser.

Good luck, hope this helps!

Edit: and here’s a great encyclopedia/blog that really helped me out when I was new. These guys know their stuff.

@The Jabbawookie Thank you for the great advice.

I will study the blog you suggested, as it looks great.

I have been playing for friendly games for about a year now, but haven't really tried list building. Hence why the advise on red dice was especially eye opening to me.

I made the changes below any feedback welcome. As it helps me to understand cards and game concepts that I haven't picked up yet.
