Emon with Boba (Crew)

By eljms, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Has anyone looked at putting Boba (Crew) on Emon and trying to put bombs in an opponents face round 1? It seems to me that with seismics, the damage is actually going to be pretty tough to avoid. The plan is:

- Kit Emon with Seismics and Boba (Crew)

- Have Tobias Beckett somewhere in the squad for more control on obstacle placement

- Aim to have three obstacles at range 2 of the opponents edge of the board with one obstacle fairly central

- After all ships have been placed, place Emon on the central obstacle and use his 3-straight bombing ability to put a seismic within range 1 of the two obstacles closest to the opponents list

Something like this:

Notes: This is just illustrative, I haven't checked the ranges carefully, the ships are 1.0, I'd probably use debris etc. but hopefully you get the point.

The squad I'm looking to fly is:

Escape Craft - •L3-37 - 24
•L3-37 - Droid Revolutionary (22)
Tactical Officer (2)

Customized YT-1300 Light Freighter - •Han Solo - 77
•Han Solo - The Corellian Kid (54)
Trick Shot (1)
Perceptive Copilot (10)
•Tobias Beckett (2)
Rigged Cargo Chute (4)
•Lando’s Millennium Falcon (6)

Firespray -class Patrol Craft - •Emon Azzameen - 99
•Emon Azzameen - Shipping Magnate (76)
Trick Shot (1)
•Boba Fett (4)
Proton Bombs (5)
Rigged Cargo Chute (4)
Andrasta (6)
Seismic Charges (3)

Total: 200/200

It's slightly counter-intuitive to take out obstacles when Han wants obstructed shots but from my so far limited testing, the key is having tightly packed obstacles (using judicious rigged cargo chute placement) that he can circle around and that he can afford to have a couple taken out through seismics.

Anything I'm missing here? Especially any reasons why this might not be legal!

I've been looking at it, haven't tried it yet.

The problem with it, I think, is that it leaves Emon there to get utterly mobbed. Otherwise, they take the worse option and avoid him, but then there's not really anything gained from it.

There's not a lot I wouldn't throw into a bomb in order to get rid of a ship.

I was pondering Emon + 2 I4 Fangs for fast support, but have started thinking about more orthodox methods for them.

I'd like to give it a go with Proxy mines and Contraband Cybernetics though, for a giggle.

He can fly away if you want him to, four straight and a boost all but guarantees he's out of range round 1.

True. Tends not to occur to me to fly away really fast with a Firespray :D

Was still thinking about Talon Roll/4k in, with Cybernetics, then dropping next turn tbh... 🤪

I've been trying to place him where he can be a pain with the seismic and then move and drop his rigged cargo chute token to help set up a barrier for Han to exploit and fly behind. I'm still experimenting with how to place all the obstacles. If I'm going to leave him in shooting distance round 1 I'd like to try and get L3 within range 2 of him to coordinate a focus or something, but it's a lot of things to juggle, probably safest to drop the bomb and get out of range initially.

I like the sound of all of that. But it seems like you might need to get quickly on the front foot, with the obstruction bonuses. I immediately look to create big spaces against the Scum Falcon.

Partly why I liked the idea of Cybernetics, getting turned quickly to press the positioning. Was a bit gutted when I saw they weren't Hyperspace, if it comes up for us.

This showed up in a thread from before 2.0 was live and it gave me the inspiration for this list.

I think the concept has potential but it is so unorthodox that I find myself leaning towards other lists whenever I have the chance to play.
