First Event(24 creature deck win)

By Moneyinvolved, in KeyForge

It was only 5 people, but I wanted to talk about competing in this game, and about the 24 creature deck that won it.

i wasn’t sure if I would like the competition in this game, and I’m still not, but it was fun. I will give it more than one more try before making my decision. I’m sure at bigger events, and down the road, I’ll see more dominating combos, but I still want to see how chains work. So that’s what I got on Competition. Please share your thoughts.

Now.... 24 creatures in a deck. Houses were BROBNAR!!!!, Mars, and shadows. No bait and switch, but plenty of ways to steal my amber. His brobnar dominated the board state, and his Mars was super efficient. My deck normally handles the board well, but I couldn’t keep up. Once he had his creatures out, I was thinking.... he is only cycling through so many action cards(creatures minus whatever artifact/“enchantment” cards he had). Such an effective deck. I’m sure board wipe decks/direct amber decks would be good. But it was fun to see how a 24 creature deck would work. Great experience

I was thinking about this the other day. I have a deck with 22 creatures and it functions very well. It does seem to overwhelm most decks. I was thinking how best to counter a creature heavy deck. Obviously, a lot of removal is helpful.

I have a new deck with Feeding Pit, Annihilation Ritual, 2 Arise, and 2 Gateway to Dis in it. If I could wait until my opponent's creature heavy deck was able to drop a lot of creatures, then Arise mine, I could drop Annihilation Ritual and Gateway, I could Feeding Pit some of my less useful creatures. The deck has enough creatures to keep the opponent's creatures occupied with reaping abilities and has 2 Tentacus to make most Artifacts not worth using. It has a Wardrummer as well to recall my Brobnar before a Dis turn.

But if this thins their deck to 12-14 cards and they have much amber generation, I'm not sure how well it would work. Arise would be a dead card and Gateway would only serve to thin their deck even more. It'll be interesting to see how it plays.

Sorry Moneyinvolved. Fairly certain you played me Thursday night. The deck I brought was Diamond Sentinel Dirk Fantisjo https://www.keyforgegame.com/deck-details/6d516ecc-d514-4522-9890-4b8b432c1fb2 . I had only previously played my wife with it twice, which is why I wanted to try it out. She stated it was not fun to play against, so sorry if that ruined your first event. I brought it because it was a laid back group of guys the first time I was there and I wanted to see how it would fair against some other decks.

While I am unsure how the competitive Keyforge scene will play out, I am excited for opportunities to play different formats than Archon. Sealed and bring your worst are what are of interest to me presently. Even bring three and your opponent gets to ban one sounds interesting. Now, I just need to get a seventh deck.

I enjoyed talking after the event and hope your next time out is more enjoyable.
